Retrieving Project Files from an old Hard Drive...without an OS.

Five years ago, I removed a master drive that contained a project full of project files...because, I couldn't get the Operating system to work.  It was frustrating, and for having at least the Audio to basically all tracks, I put this problem on the shelf for some day in the future...and...today is the day.  :-)

Is it possible to open, and successfully transfer Cakewalk project files, (from a drive where they were created)...onto a new Master drive...by making it a slave drive?

The thing is... I couldn't get windows XP re-installed on the drive where my project files are.   I'd otherwise create bun files, and have since installed (replaced) a new master drive. The only upgrade that's different now is I'm using an M-AUDIO Audiophile 192, instead of the Delta 66 card which created the project files, 5 years ago (I'm still using Sonar 2 :-)...that hasn't changed.)

I've linked the drives as I expressed above, and, if there's a proceedure that I can take for... 'how to open, and save Cakewalk project files, present on a slave drive, and, save them onto the new (sonar installed) master drive'...I would be eternally greatful. :-)

Thank You.

Unless the drive is physically damaged you should have no problem installing it as a slave. Depending on the drive, you may have to move a jumper. Check the vendor's site.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

An external enclosure should also work with no problems.

csc1,  It seems to me that your biggest problem is getting the Sonar files moved to the new master (system) drive in a way that makes them usable.  I've done it with ProAudio9 and it can be tricky.  I'd suggest that you do a post in one of the Sonar forums to get advice on how to retrieve the files and make them useful again.
