My Turn To Build a DAW - Need Help

Hello All,

Well, it's finally my turn to update my computer.  I've followed a lot of the threads to see what other folks were doing and tried to do my homework the best I can.  I've heard the arguments for  building it yourself  versus  having one of the system builders do it and decided to do it myself.   I'm primarily a hobbyist and will also be using the machine for other things other than music that will demand some processing power.

Anyway, I would really appreciate any comments/suggestions on the components I've selected and let me know if there is anything I have overlooked.   I would especially be interested in knowing if there are any known compatibility problems between the components I’ve chosen.

Processor                     - Intel Core i7 930
Mobo                           - Gigabyte GX X58A-UD5
Memory                       - OCZ DDR3 Gold XTC 6GB
CPU Cooler                - Zalman CNPS 9900 NT CPU Cooler
PSU                             - OCZ MODXSTREAM 700W
Thermal compound      -Artic Silver 5
Video Card                 - (undecided – need a suggestion on a fanless card)
Case                            - Antec P183
HardDrive                   - Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black 1TB (x2)
DVD Drive                 - Samsung Spinpoint DVD  R/RW/RAM
OS                               - Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Thanks,

Wish I could be more helpfull with the components as I know what they are but not as far as the rating game. I would make sure the MoBd has a few extra PCI and maybe PCIe. and install you're own Sound Card. IMO the WMA that comes with these MB's like mine on the HP suck in a big way and cause compatability issues. I also wouldn't use the Computer for other things and certainly not on the net. The Antivirus and Spyware slows down processing and can cause issues and we all know what the net is capable of doing to it. Can't say you can't build an excellent PC from scratch but my next one as stated in the thread above will be a Professionally built for SONAR and every part around it designed for the hardware that supports it. Good luck and keep grinding.
