Installed Sonar 8.5 Producer with recommended settings, wondering if missing content

Hi,

I just installed Sonar 8.5 Producer with recommended settings minus Guitar Rig LE. I've calculated that after installing from all 4 DVD's Sonar & all content takes up approximately 20 GB of space on my drives. I read that for a full install I would need 50 GB (Recommended: 50 GB [Full Installation] or higher) of space and had planned for that, but I'm nowhere close. Below is what has been installed and their associated weights:
Total of 18.10328 GB

Beatscape - 4.2g
Dimension Pro - 8.81g

VST Plugins - 1.9g (including ...)
  Session Drummer 3 - 783m
  RXP - 273m
  DropZone - 298m
  SFZ - 18.5m
  Perfect Space - 369m
bitmeter, boost11, channel tools, linear compressor, linear eq, percussion strip, rapture le, transientshaper, true piano, tube leveler, vintagechannel, vocal strip, z3ta+

Demo Projects - 1.98g
Cakewalk folder in My Documents - 823m
Cakewalk Projects (on root of C Drive) - 36.4m
Cakewalk Program Directory (Program Files on C Drive) - 383m
I suspect that I'm missing something. Where did the 50 GB estimation come from? Have I overlooked some important content? If so, what should I do?

Thanks,

Mapinduzi

My installation takes up around 18GB also, and I don't think I'm missing anything. Where did you read the 50GB figure?

    A few different places:

Product Box and Specs section of Cakewalk's Sonar Producer page:
    http://www.cakewalk.com/P...Studio.aspx?Prod=SR8.5
    Hard Disk Space
    Minimum:
200 MB (Minimal Installation) or higher

    Recommended:
50 GB (Full Installation) or higher
    Blogcritics Review:
http://blogcritics.org/sc...-85-producer-from/What do you need to run SONAR 8.5?
    • 200 MB for core program (50 GB for full program and content)
30 GB seems like a pretty sizable gap. I suspected/assumed that they had 50 GB's of content because competitors claims a similar amount (i.e. Logic = 38 GB), but perhaps I'm reading their 50 GB estimation incorrectly?

I can't believe that I'm the first to install Sonar 8.5 and notice the huge gap between Advertised and Actual product footprint. I'm not too shaken up by it because I love the product and have plenty to keep me occupied, but I do think the stated specs are misleading (if there actually is 30 GB missing)  or I want to know what I've done incorrectly during installation.

    Best,

I don't think it has anything to do with marketing or competing with other products...CW probably recommends the 50GB "free space" so your HD doesn't become completely filled...Frankly, I've never taken the time to total up the content of all the different folders that are created when installing a new product...

If you installed all four DVD's (64-bit & 32-bit versions) without receiving any error messages then you shouldn't worry about it...

I'm not up on all the DVD encoding standards, but I don't think you can get 50GB on 4 single-sided DVDs without data compression, and I don't recall any of the SONAR content being compressed. The standard single-sided, single-layer disks without compression would give you 4.7GB/disk --> 18.8GB.

Some (if not all) of the SONAR 8.5 DVD's are dual-layer...

    Hi all,

thanks for your replies/support. I just wanted to say though I think the 50GB recommended requirements are slightly misleading (I always assume it means installation footprint, and that stating HD space for recording, etc. is unnecessary) I'm not sad in the least. I'm totally digging sonar producer; big old grin since this thing was installed. I wish I had made the switch from logic (5.5!) a long time ago. Sonar rocks!

    thanks,
