Vocals on Mic to trigger note soundings in Sonar?

I'll soon be getting Sonar PE 8.5 I'm a real newbie to all of this. I was hoping to sing (a scale for instance) into a mic midied to Sonar and have it trigger instruments in Sonar, kind of telling Sonar what note to play with my voice rather than using a keyboard. Is this possible. If so how would it be done?

An audio mic cannot transmit midi data. You need a mic that can translate the voice and then transmit it into midi data. I do not think this device exist.
Just use the PRV or manuall trigger you midi instruemnts. Thats how its done anyways

You can't do it in real-time (not that I'm aware of, at least), but you could sing the parts into Sonar, open them in V-Vocal, and use the pitch-to-MIDI function to generate  MIDI clips, then drop those into the instrument's MIDI track.

Actually there is something that might work for you. Sonuus makes a hardware box that works as a realtime audio to midi converter. It was designed for guitar but (for a lark) I tried it with voice and it works very well. You'll need either a line matching transformer or a high impedence mic with a quarter inch phono jack to plug into the box, but this is probably the easiest and cheapest way to do what you want. Keep in mind that you will have to sing in-tune for the device to work correctly.

He could if it worked worth a dang.

There might be 3rd-party pitch-to-MIDI apps that work better.

Yea, v-vocal cant distinguish pitch good enough to do it after the fact. Maybe melodyne DNA can somehow do it better after the fact.
But why not just take your melody and click it into the PRV. Its pretty easy. I make melodies in the PRV all the time when making ringtones music

I've only used pitch-to-MIDI a handful of times, but it worked pretty flawlessly for me.

IMHO: You are wasting your time. Learn to use the staff or piano roll view to enter notes.

Thankyou for all the suggestions everyone.  So far the simplest easiest thing I could try that might work for me is what Cryophonik suggested, partly because I will have that equipment any way. I don't want it for real time. I can sing in relative pitch ( I suck), then Instrumentalize it,  transpose it  or whatever, then drop it into a track. I hope. I'm 60 yrs old with arthitis in my hands. I' not trying to be an instrumentalist, nor am I trying to avoid necessary hard work. I'm just looking for the most affordable, effective and efficient  path to take. Something like this could greatly facillitate the creation of music, for me anyway.

They make a controller where you can Hum and it records breath movements of some sort. I remember reading that some where.. and then assign your instrument to it.
