hello everybody
have a few question:
1. Sonar 8.5 producer has any standard tool to detect the maximum db of a track?
2. what,s the maximum standard db for a mixed work?
3. what,s the maximum standard db for a mastered work?

I'm just learning, but FWIW, I can offer suggestions for your first 2 questions, although I get the impression that there is no "standard"

    1. Look up Peak Marker in the manual. These display the peak value for the played section of a track

    2. Have a look at CJ's FAQ (I spotted it today in another thread and found it interesting)

    1. Peak markers let you find the highest peak in a track, but you'll have to use a third-party tool to calculate peak RMS.
    2. There is no standard maximum, but if your mix peaks out between -6 and -12 db you'll be OK.
    3. Commercial products typically peak at or very near 0db. Don't try to do that yourself, though. Get your masters up to -2db and you'll be fine.

You can try metering tools. There are plenty of them out there. I use one by IK Multimedia.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

One of the problems w/ mixing close to 0 dB is that when you (or me, anyway) convert to mp3s you'll get overs.  -1 or, as Bit sez, -2.

The perceived loudness will have to do w/ overall loudness, not the peaks.  Peaks cause overs while if your master sounds soft and peaks right at 0 it is the average sound level, not the peaks that are the problem.

As I just wrote in another thread, I'd rather have my songs sound like they are breathing a little rather than a straight-edge -1 dB - even if the song is a little softer in the CD changer than Metallica.
