Need Advice On Converting MIDI To Audio With Both Audio And Midi Tracks In Same Project

I use Cakewalk Home Studio Version 2.0 (a dinosaur, I know, but that's what I have for now). How can I record midi tracks in a project and then convert them to audio tracks (or a single audio track)? I use an external Yamaha PSR-290 electric keyboard and I have it run through my TASCAM 122-l audio/midi interface. I can record, say, two midi tracks and they play back fine in Home Studio. But if I start with an audio track project and try to add a midi track to record my keyboard in this project on a new audio tack, the record or playback button won't even work unless I add a midi track to do this. Why won't my keyboard record to an audio track like regular audio instruments or vocals do? I was told you need to record your external keyboard to an audio track in order to convert the entire project of mixed audio and midi tracks as a single, audio file. But again, my keyboard WON'T record or playback if I start a new audio track to record with: it only works if I use just a midi track only.

One other question: if I get this to work, how do you "convert" the midi and audio tracks in one project as an audio file? I tried the "bounce to tracks" option but the playback on the bounced track doesn't sound the way it did when I recorded separate tracks: notes are missing in the midi sounds, or a "tck, tick, tick" sound may be all I get when listening to the midi sounds upon playback. Do you have to export a bounced track to really get the audio conversion, then call it back up into Cakewalk? Or is that necessary?

Should I be trying to convert all tracks to audio BEFORE I bounce them all to one track? If so, how?

Mike I answered your question in your other post. But bouncing will render 2 tracks into one track. That's  what it does when you select more than one track. Like I said in your other posting. The tracks you select to bounce will be rendered in the same track. Your getting your terminology confused.
No you do not need to export to get a midi track to turn into audio. You can either bounce or freeze the synth to get audio form midi.
I think a bit of reading so you can learn the basic terminology is 100% required for someone in your position. Ive done it, he's done it, we all have done it. Ive spent years learning and after 25 years, im still learning. I still read books and articles. you should do the same so you can learn the basic terminology and what it does and how it does it.
The manual is a great start. The section on soft synths is a great read and the editing section. The tutorials in the help file is a must also. Go thru them and do them a few times
