Velocity in Windows 7 64bit

hi there,

anyone have any tips for me on this one. the Velocity drum synth that came with Project 5. I have a lot of projects that use it (I like the sound of some of its drum kits) but I get an error every time I try to load it on my new Windows 7 64 bit system (a brand new computer, fresh install of everything). I'm running 64 bit Sonar 8.53. I installed Project 5 v2 (and all the available updates) as well, really just for Velocity, since I never really use Project 5.

thanks
Dave

Do you know if its a DXi or a VSTi.

If it's a VSTi and its not running through Sonar's bitbridge you may get some joy using JBridge,

However if its a DXi as I suspect there is no way I know of bridging it to 64 bit Sonar.

Yor options would be to see if there VST version, or to use 32 bit Sonar on your 64 bit system. Both 32 and 64 bit versions can coexist on the same system.

ok yea, i haven't tried it in the 32 bit version yet. i'm planning on installing 32 bit though, so we'll see about that. i think it probably is a dxi too. hopefully i can live without it for a while though. new computer, new synths, after all, right? :-)

    thanks

    It is definitely DXi, 32bit.

    Polarbear,

    You may be in luck.

I just saw this on the JBridge website.

    quote.

DX/DXi plugins can be used in 64bit VST hosts by combining jBridge with Frank Potulski’s excellent mfx/dx/dxi wrapper dxshell. You’ll need to bridge the dll(s) created by the wrapper.
You can find Frank’s wrapper here:

You can read more about it here:

I'm resurrecting this thread, because it was never resolved, and the many related threads I've found about wrapping and bridging 32-bit DXis are not helping.

I've been experimenting withFrank Potulski's DXiShell wrapper, trying to get Velocity and other 32-bit DXis to work in 8.5.3 x64 to no avail. I do not have J-Bridge, but many threads I've read say that this should work with Bitbridge. Here's what I'm seeing:

If I leave dxishell.dll in place in my VSTPlugins folder, Plug-in Manager successfully scans the 32-bit DXis as VSTs (displaying them with (0) after them as described elsewhere), but they will not load into a project successfuly.

If I use shell2vst.exe to convert them, and remove dxishell.dll from my Vstplugins folder, they don't show up in Plug-in Manager after rescanning.  They still show up when I go to add a soft synth... but they still won't load.

So... am I doing something wrong, do I need JBridge to make this work, or is it just not possible to get this to work with Velocity?

There is another wrapper for MIDI FX that may work mfxshel. It comes in the package with dxshell.

Maybe I need to clarify: This is regarding the VELOCITY Drum Synth that came with Project 5, not the MIDIFX called Velocity that has already been ported to x64 by Cakewalk.
