Euphony vs. Cacophony
Or, your thoughts on: Simple poetic vs. boisterous jumbo. Noobs and advanced noobs could share their thoughts and/or ideals for their music ...

Yeah! I'm guessing someone's really gonna take a bite ... sooner than later. How about these bad-attitude lyrics? (a kid had to explain the contradictions to me); this song is just not right: I come from Alabama With my banjo on my knee I'm going to Louisiana, My true love for to see It rained all night The day I left The weather it was dry The sun so hot, I froze to death Susanna, don't you cry Oh, Susanna, Oh don't you cry for me For I come from Alabama With my banjo on my knee

I think the answer is to simply consider the two root words: Eu = Good Caco = Bad I never really compared the two words... and now I am entertained by the notion that some forms of music (e.g. Second Line Jazz bands) can be both Cacophonic and Euphonic simultaneously... although it sort of suggests anyone who thinks so may be marching to the beat of a different drummer. best regards, mike

The thing is, what is euphonic and cacophonic is very subjective and it varies between people and cultures. The music of different cultures, extant and extinct have always been exploring the wide spectrum of sounds, including with the number of chromatic steps to an octave.

Oh, Philip, it's easy for you to talk about, but Oh Suzanna gave me my very first bout of existential angst when I was in 5th grade (yes, that was 1963). I agonized over those lyrics! And now you make light of them! Don't worry, I eventually got over it, with the help of psychiatry and good drugs

Joan, Mike, Mcourter and MGH, Yeh, my daughter's name is Suzanna (from the rebel state, I'm afraid) ... the kid that 'enlightened' me ... while I tried to play my guitar in some absurd banjoic manner. I had hoped by now that this thread had devolved into psychedelia-vs-metal wars ... or, at the very least, some country-vs.-hiphop bashings. Last night (while roller skating) I couldn't help but notice everything was hip-hop and no country (... a bit strange for my rebel state, AL) ... Caleb, my 19 y/o stated that he "can't skate (or dance) to country music without tripping and falling."

(BTW i don't like that band at all, it's just an example of musical wankery of the most boring kind, just as this is an unsubtle attempt at irony, or is it sarcasm?)

(BTW i don't like that band at all, it's just an example of musical wankery of the most boring kind, just as this is an unsubtle attempt at irony, or is it sarcasm?) Well I got through about 3 minutes of this ... which was a lot like your metal (I love yours a lot more ... as I've read your lyrics 'driving' your passion) Yesterday (before reading your post), in an attempt to increase cacophony in my percussive hyper-euphony ... ... I ordered Toontrack's Library of the Extreme - Blasts & Fills MIDI's by Dirk Verbeuren. I'm still unsure if I should $plurge ($89) for the: 1) Drumkit From Hell EZX (Swedish, cutesey, and artificial sounding to my ears), 2) Claustrophobic EZX (hip-hoppish ... also cutesey artificial sounding to my ears), 3) or the Twisted Kit EZX ... which, at least, has original/unique sounds. ... to compliment the spooks of Dirk Verbeuren. Something tells me, none of the above compliments him that well; I think his examples employe the standard Avatar (Superior2) and EZD Pop kits ... which suits my croniness. ... despite Verbeuren's apparent 'gothic spook' ... Verbeuren is far more convincing than the euphonic Peter Fredlander's (who sounds like Karen Carpenter from Hades (... who's 'only just begun' (... though I love that song (...etc.)))). His trans-meter stuff works well in 6/8 sections as well as 4/4. (Which is still my level) Gothic spook vs. politically correct: both reprobations have their followers. But gothic spook may be rapidly becoming politically correct ... in the manner that hip hop has become the reasonable standard for roller skating. Personally, I don't vote for politicians (ever ... (and, yeh, I'll gripe about our politicians almost as much as the Chr!st did (oops! Sorry to ramble ...))).

OK then, Check this out: http://www.timesonline.co...res/article6858884.ece and try to search out the accompanying video clips from the episode described in the article... it was belly bouncing hilarious. On another note, I have a work mate who knows and sings along with the lyrics for every country song on the charts. He is into "country". I like to bring CDs of real country to stretch his sensibilities enough so that if he ever meets someone else who likes country he will not embarrass himself. So I bring all the great stuff from the fifties and sixties. Last week I blew his mind... I brought Sweetheart of the Rodeo and turned it up for a long drive down the interstate. Big Time! But I like Rap ok too... mainly the older militant stuff. Lets get it on.
