Z3TA+ versus Pentagon 1

I am looking for an analog style soft synth for use with Music Creator 5.
I was thinking about Pentagon 1 as a step up from the free Square 1 but
I noticed Z3TA+ is on special for $19.99 at the moment, where as
the Pentagon 1 download is $79.

Does Pentagon 1 have any real advantages over Z3TA+?
(I don't think Z3TA+ does the vocoder stuff for example?)

Although Pentagon 1 is a fine synth the $20 deal for Z3ta+ makes it a no brainer.  It's more that Z3ta+ has several advantages over Pentagon I.

Z3TA is a better synth than pentagon in a lot of ways.  It doesn't do vocoding, but there are plenty of other free/cheap vocoders out there.  For the price, Z3ta is the deal.

Ahhh, there are demo versions of both available for download.
I'm experimenting with the Z3TA+ one now.
What are the limitations on the demo versions?
They seem to be fully functional, I assume they time expire or something?

    Periodic volume dropouts. LOL
I wish I had known that before I started making a program, I couldn't work out
where that strange volume modulation effect was coming from. hahaha

After using both for a couple weeks now, I like how Pentagon1 is a little bit easier to figure out,  and seems to do well with imitating Moog sorta sounds, which I love.
But then again, you could probably do that with Z3ta+, i just find it quicker to jump in with Pentagon1 for some classic sounds than using Z3ta+ which seems overwhelming at first.

But Z3ta+ is really cool, and it can do almost anything you can think of. At $19.99 you can't go wrong. It really is a no-brainer.

It should be noted that some people are having serial number issues with their recently purchased Z3ta's.

    http://www.kvraudio.com/f...t=289633&start=240

It appears Cakewalk's poor customer service is still a probelm.

Also it should be noted that there is a bug in the Midi file to Arp import.  It has never worked for me and several others as well.  We tried getting a fix through Cakewalk's customer "support" ticket system and got nowhere so the bug is still there.............after three years.............Doesn't affect the sound you just can't create your own midi files to be used in the Arp and import them reliably.  There is also an issue with pre 1.5 presets not sounding right,  It's discussed in the link I provided above.  Rene, seriously have some pride in your work and fix Z3ta+ if you're going to continue selling it.

But having said all that for $20 Z3ta+ is still a no brainer.................it just might take awhile to get it up and registered.

For anyone interested I'm using this skin by Jorgen of nBeat.  I edited the colors a bit.

Not as dark as the original.

Check out Jorgen's excellent graphics for Pentagon 1 and Z3ta+ here:

Is it ok to edit that skin as long as I don't distribute it?

I bought the download version of Z3TA+, guess what, no serial number e-mail yet LOL.
I'm guessing their process isn't fully automated and I'll get it in due course when
someone is in the office. So much for 15 minutes like they say on the shop page.
Same thing happened with my Music Creator 5 serial number.

Hopefully you'll get that serial number tomorrow, you'll have fun with Z3ta+ and it will be worth the wait.

Yes I love the Vostok skin.  Jorgen is a genius at GUI design.

If I remember correctly Jorgen is ok with edits but I haven't communicated with him for quite some time.  Is there a contact address at his website?

I had a problem in getting the serial numebr for the download version of Z3TA+, but full marks to Cakewalk - my email to them was answered within two working days, with firstly an apology (they were apparently overwhelmed by the response to the bargain price) and secondly the much needed serial  number.

    As rm5700 says - at $19.95 - a no-brainer. Great synth.

Be sure to download the free Muz3um patches for Z3TA+.  I downloaded the Rapture version of Muz3um and I love it!

Even though the OP has already made up his mind, I gotta say that I much prefer Pentagon to Z3TA.  My opinion might be a bit skewed since I'm only using my soft synths for their presets (I save my programming time for hardware synths).  I really dislike many of the Z3TA presets, while I've found tons of Pentagon presets that I like.  I can't comment on the tweakability of either synth other than to say that Pentagon looks much simpler and intuitive.

While the only advantage Pentagon has over Z3ta in my opinion in the Vocoder, I guess I'm going to have to use Pentagon for now.

my opinion is the pentagon has a better sound than the z3ta, i usually go by what the raw waveforms sound like and the wavetables in the z3ta  sound a bit too thin, it helps the z3ta having effects to fatten the sound up, but if you want classic analog sounds i say the pentagon is your best bet, z3ta is great for programing(shaping the waveforms etc), but you really have to do some tweeking with effects to fatten the sounds up, rapture would be a good move, the subtractor  or the thor  in reason are good shouts too

Which one of Jorgen's Pentagon skins are you using?  Genesis?  Vostok?  They work fine here in 8.5.3
