Using the Browser

Until now, I had underestimated the potential of the browser... but now I've decided that it is so important that I will be using it in my every project.  Here's what I am doing now (3 simple steps):
  1. Designate a folder in your local directory.  Make a new folder and call it "MIDI".
  2. Archive all of the patterns, phrases, sentences, and midi data you have ever created in any project by saving each MIDI clip as an individual MIDI file.  In doing this, make sure to properly organize the folders.  For example, since I mostly do orchestration, I chose to have folders like this:
  • MIDI
    • Orchestral Patterns
      • Strings
        • Accompaniment
          • Staccato
          • Sus
          • Other articulations
        • Melody
          • Staccato
          • Sus
          • Other articulations
     3. Archive any other MIDI files you may have accumulated into this folder.  Again, I cannot emphasize the importance of keeping organized here.
     4. Use the MIDI clips in your everyday projects by opening the browser in Sonar.

Have fun with this great tip, guys!  I hope you will enjoy the browser as much as I do!
