Edirol PCR-500 Keys Not Working

I have Sonar Producer as well as the Sonar LE 6 running with my Edirol PCR-500.  Everything was going fine until the kids tried to use it.  Everything works fine with mapping controls.  My problem now is that the Piano Keys are not triggering the Synths I plug in.  As it was still new I exchanged it for a new one.  The problem is the same - I can not get the keys to play trigger notes or octaves to the Synths anymore.  I can see the data being sent but it is not coming back through Sonar into the Synths.  There must be 1 simple thing I am missing and I can't see it if my life depended on it.

    Hi,

I'm totally dis-illusioned with the midi-keyboard crap ... and the worst part ... everyone knows it all, and no one can help!

I have 2 programs that work really well with the keyboard ... and putting in something as easy/silly/stupid as Music Creator kills them on the spot ... and I can't even get MC to simply pick up the sound!

I really think that the compatibillity issues need to stop and these issues hammered, and I really want a state to create a law that forces the company to return the money ... and on that day, I guarantee you that a lot of this stuff would work and would have a lot less problems ... instead of concentrating on just features, they would fix their house and programs ... and yeah, Cakewalk included!

I'm almost sure that I am done with music playing in the conventional way. I'm just hoping to find something that will allow me to just record what is coming through the sound channels ... and stop messing up with anything else ... like the old fashioned tape decks!

It's really simple ... not interested in "daw" and it's functions. I'm interested in "recording" ... **** the rest! I'm just gonna go the old fashioned way and get a mixer ... and then use Audacity to pick it up ... I'm done wasting time and money on some of this overblown and over colored garbage!

Moshkiae - Don't give up. And don't lose faith in DAW's. I'm sure there's a solution to your problem.
Who has helped you already? Have you posted your problem elsewhere?
If it was working fine before, then it can work again.
What is the specific problem? What have you tried? What settings confuse you? How knowledgeable are you of the software you're using? I am pretty confident people on here can help you.

I would say ask the kids what they messed with. You don't need midi data going back to the controller if you are just triggering a soft synth. in tht DAW as long as you see midi activity when you are pressing keys happening on the MIDI input/output widget then something is wrong in Sonar. Check your MIDI devices selected in Sonar and make sure he correct ins and outs are selected in the MIDI track that you have the synth on.

    ROFL - Good one!

Oh - and for the record - i probably would not have a CLUE how to help. I own a PCR-500 myself but i'm sure there are others who can help more. However, i agree - it sounds like a simple setting in Sonar - not a problem with the controller.

I'm gettin confused now though - as to who needs the help...Petemlr or Moshkiae?
And who's Pedro?? I feel a new T-Shirt design coming on.

petemlr never came back (which makes it real easy to derail a thread). He had problems with his PCR-500.
Moshkiae aka Pedro had some problems getting his Music Creator program going and quit.
We tried to help him, he even got at least 2 responses in the MC forum from MC folks, yet he didn't do what was asked, and didn't respond to our questions.
So the answer to your question is: they both need help.

So - we have a spare thread to make use of. I think it would be a tragedy to let it go to waste.

    Correction!

The discussion became mute when the interest was not the issue anymore!

I did do what was requested and much more, including support ... and I've already gotten my money back ... so thx for the help, and Beagle gets more than a pat in the back for trying ... but sometimes ... it's not a match made in heaven, and the software was as poor as advertised! In fact there are some big music companies that don't even bother carrying it ... geee ... I wonder why!

I have a lot invested in music and learning it. Just not going to work with a program that is more interested in changing everything than it is in working ... it's that simple. The fact of the matter was that I can play my Jupiter and Miroslav Software beautifully with my midi keyboard and the techie on the phone could not even make it work right. And the final straw was when someone said I had not called!

So mind your manners, get to the point, and if you want to call someone a jerk, you can do so. But look at the mirror first before you do!

Cakewalk refunded your money? Good. I've never heard of anyone getting their money back for a software purchase, but there are exceptions to every rule.
Yet you still belittle their product, when they went far out of their way to help you, for a $40 piece of software, and thousands of people throughout the world load and use MC 5 every day with little or no problem.
