How do I load a 3rd party (Dan Dean Bass) library into Kontakt 4? - Solved

I'm a new Kontakt user as of today, it's gonna take a bit of time to figure it all out properly but I am sure will be worth it.

I downloaded the Dan Dean Bass Library also earlier today, and put it on to my dedicated samples hard drive along with the Kontakt 4 library. When I browse in the Kontact window, I can only see the Dan Dean Bass individual samples named by chromatic scale notes. It does not let me see and, therefore load the .nki (Native Kontakt File) files for each instrument which I assume control all the parameters and articulations etc. I can see the .nki files in a windows browser, but that doesn't really help.

I have posted on the NI forum, but you have to wait for a moderator to approve the post before it shows, and I am sure I am missing something simple here.

Any ideas from any of you Sonar Kontakt folks?

yoyorpal answered that question for me:

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2046340

    To clarify:

    1. I unzipped the files

    2. Put the unzipped contents in a folder (Dan Dean Bass)

    3. Per that answer I use the File command (or drag into the Kontakt browser)

    Boom. Done.

Hi Dave, Yes I read that thread and participated in it too. Thanks for the reply.  I must have done something wrong although its hard to see just yet what it is. I can load individual samples into Kontakt 4 ie C or C# etc, but thats not the way its supposed to work is it? Do you drop what is effectively the .nki file into Kontakt because according to the documentation, that is the file which, as well as giving access to all the samples according to which notes are used on your keyboard, also defines the keyboard articulation controls etc. In that case, the file window in Kontakt does not let me see those files which I can plainly see in a normal windows browser. I am sure this will be a slap the head moment when I see it but right now its got me flummoxed. Any more steering would be appreciated

I checked. Each instrument has a folder with:

    An nki file

A folder with all the sampled notes called SAMPLES.

I'll try putting up a screen shot of Kontakt to show what I see. It's difficult to describe.

Dave, thats great help, I really appreciate it. Problem now fixed ! What I had done is created a Dan Dean directory on my samples drive, dropped the unzipped directory into it, then, in order to tidy up the directory structure, deleted the unzipped directory after moving ther contents directly into the directory name I had created. This obviously messed up the structure that the Kontact browser wants to see. So I deleted and started again, and voila ! I'm getting exactly the same layout in my Kontakt directory as you are. My .nki files are now loading fine.

    Many thanks once again Dave
