OT: VSTi with goog Lead sounds for Jazz Fusion
Hi, Can anyone recoment a good VSTi or DXi that has good lead sounds for jazz fusion? I am looking for some clean sounds, airy, velvet leads for my themes. I am tired of all the comun leads such as express leads, moog leads etc. I am after some modern and good sounding leads. Any ideas? Kind regards joni

You don't say what you have already, but if you have Sonar 8.x PE Z3ta should give you "modern" sounding leads. If you want something out of the different get away from presets on what ever you are using and make your own sounds. Even an emulation like Minimonsta can sound very different to a stereotypical Minimoog with imaginative programming and some external effects. Also, what about processing real instruments (or samples of real instruments?) For example put a sax through XLIS3 set up the pitch and envelope followers and patch them to control processing of the signal. http://www.xils-lab.com/pages/XILS-3.html

Omnisphere - more synth sounds than you're likely to ever need, for most any application. I have its predecessor, Atmosphere, and have barely scratched the surface.

djoni Thank Glyn, Will try your suggestions. I have Z3ta, which leads from it do you mean? Only you know what will fit your requirments, but I would get away from the presets and learn how to create sounds.

I love Zebra from U-he. I have also found some useful sounds in Rapture though I avoid its pads and the more evolving, "animated" presets (just not my style). If you ever come across Computer Music magazine, they include a special lite version of Zebra in the enclosed CD. Check it out. It might be just what you are looking for. Also, CM later released a bunch of additional presets with a later issue. I don't have the dates or volumes, but I can look into it if you are interested. As Paul suggested, it is worth creating your own sounds. Just working off presets can be tedious, but it can also be fun. I have created many sounds while working toward the desired sound. So, you can quickly build your library along the way. Good luck and take care, Joni. Living Room Rocker

You can probably get every possible sound you need just from soft-synths packed with Sonar 8.5 (Studio, and even more so in Producer) If you want to save some time, try Analog Factory by Arturia . There is fully functional (no time limitation) demo available. After using it for a while, I've purchased the full version, and it's fantastic. Excellent analog modelling and search functionality.

Hello, I am bringing back this old post of mine. Any new synths you guys recommend? I love the synth sounds of yellow jackets, weather report, special efx etc. I guess you know what kind of sounds I am talking about... Thanks in advance. regards Joni

It might take a year to audition every sound that's supplied in the plug ins that come with Sonar. Then there are lot more for free from say KVR. In the end what we like is not important, it's what you like. As said above experiment with editing pre sets., record a lead line and while playing it back, start turning the knobs! Start with a sound that is close to what you had in mind.
