Processer scheduling?

I'm confused on this subject a little. A few "optimizing windows for Sonar" articles I came across all made the claim to switch processor scheduling to background services.  Is that correct, if so why?

No don't. That is obsolete info. Sonar should be run with priority to programs.

    This is from CW.

Are there any Windows 7 optimizations recognized by Cakewalk for Sonar performance?

I think the recommendation changed when Vista came out. Prior Windows versions had background services recommended

AFAIK, the scheduling tweak was always bogus. I had some XP systems that would barely run at all this option was enabled. Nothing that SONAR does or needs from the O/S runs as a background service, so all it was doing was giving priority to Windows housekeeping processes instead of SONAR.

For the most part, I think O/S optimizations and their benefits are over-rated, with the possible exceptions of disabling core parking for I-series processors. Unless your system has a specific problem with with DPC latency or some other performance issue that requires making changes to default BIOs or O/S settings, I wouldn't bother with the majority of them.

I believe that was more an ASIO tweak than a Windows tweak anyway.

I'd have to agree with you on some points but when I was using XP home I had to turn off numerous background services.
I used the Black Viper page as a reference. Scheduling processor usage to background services never worked for me either.
Win 7 solved many problems. I haven't yet optimized anything in Win 7.

Win 7 runs like a charm here without any tweaks. Leave the processor scheduling to programs.

That background scheduling tweak is seriously legacy. It didn't even help in XP, never mind Vista and W7.

I know of no worthwhile tweaks in W7 beyond the obvious stuff of making sure you've not got loads of junk processes running as startup items.
