Input on Guitar Tone..........

This is a short very basic clip of what I would like to become a guitar instrumental some day...........

In this instance I'd like a little feedback on the guitar tones.......

I am recording direct thru a cheap mixer anymore and in this clip I am trying to capture a dirty bluesy humbucker tone opposed to the Fender Strat clean overdrive(SRV)

It has been a challenge doing this direct and getting it believable..........but this particular session struck me as close...or getting closer?

Nor the playing or the mix are very technical.....

But I'd like some feed back on the lead and chord tones.......

Thanks...

P.S.

The guitar in use is a Gibson LP Special SL with stock 498T and 490R p/u's....

This clip has no mix FX applied what I recorded is pretty much what you hear ....

I did use a touch of  EQ and Limiting in SF AS9 after it was exported from SH4.

Apologies to those whom already listened in "Hardware Forum"...I didn't get a lot of feed back over there just a couple PM's

I thought that was a pretty good sound. Maybe a little muddy on the bottom end.

    Sounds good.

You are on the bridge pup for those pinch harmonics?

Sounds very good but I can't tell if you've achieved the tone you want because only you know that.  If you have an example of what you want, i.e. I want the gtr tone to sound like the lead in Song X by Artist Y.  Then I go check it out and have some feedback.

Needs some more mid range to lift it out of the mix slightly and clear the bottom end up a marginally (and I mean marginally).

Other than that, the Gibson sounds like a nice slab of wood.

I've actually found that Gibson's pups are more prone to a loss of clarity on the bottom end, but you can change that just EQing, so not really an issue (especially for me...)

Great tune BTW, like the blues/jazz vibe, heading into the same arena as Robben Ford and Larry Carlton eh?

Peace costs nothing, so why not hand some out....?

Actually I am on the neck pickup (490R) with the volume open full.

    Kinda my thinking to...............

In the area of mid range .........I think I  need to track some Bass Guitar against it to see more clearly where the lead will sit.........?

I like it As a LP player, I'd be more than happy with that tone, sounds sweet Zungle. You certainly have the chops for the genre, I'd love to hear a full-on instrumental track like that.

    Hi there Zung

Sheesh, if that's a work in progress, I can't wait for the finished article

The lead tone is excellent, it really works well with the style you're playing.  Speaking of which, that's truly some top notch shreddage my friend - very fluid and right up there technically and musically.

After listening to this, I can't wait to hear some of your metal stuff  \m/

Actually if it was me, I'd drop the mids just a bit.

    I like it!

Nothing like the sound of a Gibson neck pickup. On my SG... that's the PU of choice for me. I rarely use the bridge PU.

You have the chops to deliver ...so go for it.  Tweeze the EQ if you want but I think it sounds good..... both lead and rhythm.

Better to finish a song and have some nits in it than to not finish a perfect "never gonna be heard".

    Your right................

Right now I am doing a little guitar instrumental ..............using a different approach.(For Me)

I am doing it in sections only..........and I'm gonna keep the most simplistic rhythm sections as possible(Bass and Drums), and focus on just the lead guitar parts.

I am trying to write or at least track a couple bars/ideas everyday. When I have 3-4 good minutes its gonna wrap it up and call it a song?

Whether it needs more or not............I gotta get to a point where I can finish something.

    Thanks......

Yeah... finishing a song, whether it's 100% perfect or not.... (generally not) ...allows you the freedom to move on to the next song..... if you never finish a tune.... it kinda hands on like an anchor dragging you down.

Now..... I do have quite a few unfinished tunes in the old songbank, as I call the folder that holds the unfinished stuff..... I just pulled one more out of there today...... but I also delete the ideas that just don't seem to work after a time has passed.

The whole idea for me is to keep the ideas and material flowing and fresh.

I'm with herb.  I've got hundreds of unfinished songs.  But most of them are finished enough.

    That hits home...........

I have loads of partially done material............mainly unfinished....as I don't sing lead vocals at all.....and they need proper arrangement buy a vocalist or group.
(I guess that means its just a bunch of guitar licks)

Yesterday I found an old demo probably finished enough to post for fun.

I"m gonna try to get it up tonight.

    Thanks guys
