The Producer version has a lot of nice fx (and soft synths). Cake have their own 64 series - a percussion strip, a vocal strip, linear Eq and multi-band comp. There is also a channel strip, which is a rebaged golden channel from the now defunk Kjearhous (sp). All these are good, tho I don't know about being up to Waves quality - which I've heard in session but not used on my own. I usually just use the Sonitus channel stuff - not a lot of character but it works.
However, I'm very happy w/ Voxengo stuff. It works and sounds good. At least give it a demo - esp. the Marquis comp and the Elephant limiter. Those are outstanding, along w/ the curve EQ. And if you like it is relatively cheap - unlike Waves, who also want you to re-up every year.
And like Scott sez, you don't need to red line - or even orange line your recordings. Use 24 bits and the 64 bit mix engine and you should be good to go.
