Fatal Error Dim Pro 64 Update 1.5 crashes

The new Dimension Pro 64 update keeps crashing Sonar.

I have Sonar 8.5 64 bit with Win 7 64 bit.

Some sounds seem to work fine others crash the program.

This sucks!

I have same OS and Sonar 8.5.3 PE 64 running. My Dimpro 1.5 update won't even load an instrument - it (and Sonar) crashes when clicking on the 'load program' window.  I removed and re-installed Dimpro 1.2 plus 1.5 patch but the same thing keeps happening, although Dimpro 1.2 works without the update patch installed.

Thank you for your posts. I hope these are not common problems. I've avoided installing the 1.5 update until I hear back about its stability. Please do post an update if you get it working.

Same here. The 64 bit dxi used to do this, the 64 bit vst would play any sounds (vers 1.2). So now the 64 bit vst works, but it crashes all the time....very disapointing.

I'm having some limitations with my new upgrade, as well.  It works for a while, then suddenly it just quits altogether, and it takes the project down with it causing me to have to reboot.  Fortunately, I still have the DXi version on my computer, and it works well.  I thinke CW still needs to do some work on this version although they're close to getting it stable.  BTW, my stand alone version doesn't work at all.  I'll keep hoping that they eventually get it right.

I'm lucky enough that reaper and sonar are the only two hosts I use right now, point being that the DXi x64 version works in either host. (I've got a project with 5 dimpro's in it right now without error that I can tell)

I'm skipping this update as it seems many have had issues.

My Dim Pro X64 does not play.  It appears to load programs, the midi plays, but the DimPro does not receive or reproduce the input.  And then, working with it, I got the blue Screen of Death.  It took them so long to respond to the reported problems with 1.2, how long will it take them to fix this?

As I understand it. and if you know differently please correct me, there are some Dimension Pro samples that use REX files. As Propellor Heads have not made REX 64 bit compatable there are likley to be problems with these patches. If some patches work and others do not this could be the reason. Naming th eoffending patches would help get to the bottom of it.

As my 64 bit DXi, so far, does all I ask of it I am considering not installing the update at this time.

It's interesting you brought that up because I did not know those grooves were REX. The only time the x64 DXi version made sonar hang was when I was browsing those loops.

I'm glad I didn't do the 1.5 update this weekend then.

I read threads about the installation of 1.5 shows two different x64 and other things that might suggest that installation fails or is faulty.

    Hopefully it's a installation thing.

It's really bad if DP has more sever bugs in 1.5 than 1.2.

That makes total sense about the REX files, it was drum loops that caused the errors for me. It would also explain why I have no issues with the 32 bit vst through bitbridge.

OK I spent the last hour doing various things in 64 bit SONAR with Dim Pro 1.5 carefully avoiding anything I suspected might have a REX file in it and no crashes. Not saying this is the sole culprit, but it's an encouraging start.

Yes, it seemed random while it was happening to me. There was one specific patch that did it each time, can't remember which one. It was a guitar patch, one of the first ones.

Oh, well, I'll just go play with my NI instruments...

Ah this is just so typical of Cakewalk- I just popped on the website to see if there were any updates to fix these 64-bit issues (I switched back to 32-bit Sonar etc due to the problems)- I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the Dimension Pro and Rature updates and release notes.  Brilliant! At last! I thought.  Then I came onto the Forum.....

I appreciate the REX observations have some merit, but how do you explain blue screens and crashes when clicking load program (previous messages in this thread)?

DO CAKEWALK TEST ANYTHING????!!!!!!!  THEY TAKE AN AGE TO DO SOMETHING AND THEN MAKE THINGS WORSE THIS IS RIDICULOUS - I AM SERIOUSLY THINKING OF DITCHING DIMESNION PRO, RAPTURE AND SONAR FOR THAT MATTER!

IF THERE IS ANYONE FROM CAKEWALK OUT THERE PLEASE DO YOUR CUSTOMERS THE COURTESY OF EXPLAINING:

    1. WHY YOU TAKE SO LONG TO RELEASE PATCHES
    2. WHY YOU SEEM TO INVEST LITTLE (OR NO) TIME IN TESTING
    3. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER BEFORE YOUR USERS TURN TO SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY WORKS

    COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I regret the several wasted hours trying to get this Dim Pro 1.5 to work. I know about the REX files but even if you do select one surely it shouldn't cause a full on bluie screen. even apart form the REX issue it just isn't stable. Considering that cakewalk are 'masters' of all things x64 this is a real disappoinment.

Easiest remedy - uninstall all the cakewalk instruments and use KOMPLETE 6 and all the IK Multimedia stuff which just works witout hassel. whether its 32 or 64 it just works.

I've been getting fatal error crashes with 1.5 on 64x when loading certain patches.  After much testing i found the problem to be a MIDI Matrix issue on the setting random unipolar - changed the setting from 20 to 0 - and the problem solved so far no crashes and Dim Pro stable - dont know why this should make a diffrence - but it did! see image this may or may not help -  Andy

Wow- Cakewalk should hire you as a tester :-)  Commendablke stuff.

A question to Cakewalk though - do you really expect your users to have-to go to these lengths - it is plain ridiculous! Surely Cakwalk projects are about making music not testing your bugs!

I would have a little more understanding if it were a badly written 3rd Party Plugin - BUT THIS IS A CAKEWALK DAW RUNNING A CAKEWALK PLUGIN!!! NO EXCUSES!!!!!

(clearly getting angry again so I'm signing off to do something creative in Reason- it just works!!)

Oh and one more thing- Cakwalk are clearly lying to us:

The release notes for the 1.5 Dim Pro update:

    • Windows 7 compatibility
-erm they have been boasting W7 compatibility for Sonar for a good while now- and Dim Pro comes with Sonar

    • Windows 64-bit VST improvements
    -WHAT?! GIVE US A BREAK!!!

It's been a few weeks since this was originally posted, and I've been working with DP quite a bit since then.  I've had no crashes or problems with the upgrade recently, and I've gotten it going in stand alone mode successfully.  If I have any problems in the future, I'll try the work-around from Andy (Dorset Magic).  This stuff is so esoteric...

Thanks Dorset Magic! This seems to be the problem.

Anyone care to see if they can duplicate the problem? Just follow below.

    I'm running Sonar 8.5.3 in Win7 both 64 bit.

I start a new project and load Dim Pro 1.5. I make sure it's version 1.5 by clicking on the Dimension Pro logo in the plug-in. I do this because I have both 1.2 and 1.5 versions in my plug in folder.

Goto the 08-Guitars folder and load "Almost There".

Check to see what your settings are compared to the pic above. Mine has Both Random Unipolar 1 and 2 set to 40. If I play some notes, it works for a moment and then I hear a stuck midi note and then Sonar crashes and then my computer crashes.

Once I reboot and try it again, but BEFORE I play a note I double click on both Random Unipolar 1 and 2 "40" to change it to "0". Then I play again. It WORKS!!!

    Anyone care to confirm this?

Thanks, and special thanks to Dorset Magic for discovering this. I'm sure if we can nail it down, Cakewalk can fix it quickly.

    Hi A1

The patch is Atmospheric Energy expansion Pack from Digital Sound Factory.  Just tested your suggested patch "Almost Together" and yes it crashes Dim Pro - so made the adjustments. Until a fix is forthcoming every time I get a crash I'll change the settings of Random Unipolar on any patch that crashes (not sure how many more are likely to have the same issue) .  I am pleased i was able to help, I have learnt so much from the forum and benefitted from the postings from people who are really experienced, it's good to be able to contribute give something back of value which has been of help.
