Theft

So I was all excited to be flying to New York this week.  Until I realised I'd lost my bank card at London Heathrow when I went to pay for the cab from JFK.  Whoops.  Then I discover that someone had spent 260 quid on my card this afternoon while I was at 30k feet over the Atlantic.  I'll get the money back but it does make me cross.  Last time I was at the airport I found a card someone had left in the swipe machine and just handed it back to the teller.  I remember thinking at the time how grateful that person would be.  So much for Karma I guess...

Still, it's a nice evening in NY as I sit in a plush hotel on Wall St.  And in a week I'll be in the Swiss Alps on holiday with my gal.

Damn shame Wood. Wall St. on a Sunday night? That's some slow movin. Take a stroll over to the South Street Seaport for a beverage and a nice sunset. There is a nice pub on the 3rd floor. Say hi to Gil for me.

Yeah, sad to hear that.  :-(

I hope the Swiss Alps more than make up for it!  :-)

    Wood.... I hear ya....

Someone swiped my card number a few years ago at Miami Int. ..... while I was in Argentina, someone tried to charge $1500 on my card..... fortunately, the card company did not shut my card down on me while I was in Argentina. But when I got back I had to verify ALL my charges from the time I left till I returned...... all the charges were mine except the one to  some company in California for the $1500. Card company would not tell me who the person was of what company the item was charged to. They reversed the charges and issued me a new card & number, so I came out OK.

OK... this shows how far out of the loop I am..... You can pay for a cab with a credit card? Wow.... that is so cool. I knew some vending machines are taking cards.... but cabs?

BTW: yeah, I'd have returned the card also to the proper owner or a teller as you did.... enjoy NYC... I'd be looking forward to the Alps.....

Yep, some you can.  My driver was from Gambia so we had a great talk about the World Cup on the way.

Wall St on a Sunday is pretty quiet except for a bunch of people doing parkur (?) outside.  My brother lived on Water St at the Seaport end which is livlier so I'll head that way this evening.

    Wood.

You're nearly in my time zone (only 3 hours ahead instead of 8).

That's got to be sooooooo exciting to be that close to Bapu?

Quick update on this because it made me laugh this morning when I opened my mail after getting back home.  If you're going to steal and then use somebody else's credit card then common sense might suggest you do so in a way that makes tracking the expenditure at least moderately challenging for the boys in blue.

Whoever took my card at Heathrow's rather swish new Terminal 5 spent it on..... paying off his BT telephone account, according to the letter I got from the bank today. lol.  What a muppet!

Right.  When Bapu goes on his trip, don't use his cards to pay my bills.  Got it!  Thanks for the tip.

That's funny ... Kind of like hiding the key under the mat and then putting up a sign to say the key's under the mat ....

Kind of reminds me of the story about a guy that wanted cigarettes while holding up a local convenience store. He produced his ID to prove to the teller that he was old enough to buy them.
The police were waiting for him when he got home.
Enjoy the Alps. That's a beautiful area.
