Surf Vampire Rock

Its been awhile since I posted a song.  This one is another one sort of in the same vein as "Living Underground," but with a 60's meets 80's feel (I've had this guitar riff that I used for a play about ants).  I upgraded to Sonar Home Studio 7 and  it seemed to come out louder, but hey here it is "In My View".

    Pretty cool tune not really my thing but i still liked it. Little nit i have is you need to spread(widen) the vox more they sound like they are dead in the center.

    because he knows the time is short.....
    let him who hath understanding.....

    Hi,

    Surf Vampire Rock! Cool song. A little variation on the drums

    would help but I like what you're doing.

    Thanks guys for your compliments and constructive criticism.  I know about the vocals- they need work in the mix.  Yup, you're right the vocals are exactly in the center. I don't know how to mix vocals still.  I basically have two tracks, one with a touch of reverb and one with lots of chorus.  Both are at the center and have volume envelopes all over them with effects-eq, compression, limiter.  I don't know how to widen them like you said. What else needs to be done?

    I basically followed this guide

    Whoa --- this song took me back to another time and place and I liked it.  It started out (the guitar part) like an early B-52's riff (circa 1977-78) and morphed into a combo of British punk/new wave bands of the same era.  In my youth, there was a place in town called the Buffalo Roadhouse (it was not in Buffalo NY but on Buffalo Ave. in Tampa, FL).  The Roadhouse had groups that played this kind of stuff.  It was great and so was your song.  I enjoyed it --- Thanks for posting.

    I also got the B52s vibe prior to the vocals (a very good thing as I used to dig them).  I think you have achieved your description very well (60's meets 80's).  Very cool guitar work and the vocals are a great fit to the overall vibe.  Mix 2 parts B52s and 1 part Cars and you have this unique and very well done song.  Nice work!

    Mr. Faust, This is very early MTV to me....cool.  You captured the right atmosphere with your choice of sounds and arrangement. The voice is good too although the effect (flange?) seem to sizzle your ss's a bit too much (sibilance). I would bring the vox up and back off on the heavy effect except maybe on the bridge. The personality and attitude in your voice is very distinctive and  needs to be brought out and not effected/covered up. Good ideas, strong song.  Also, is it just me or is there a dropped beat at what appears to be a patch point?  Great work, enjoyed the listen.........Ron

    Thanks everyone...yeah I am guilty of being stuck in the 80's :).   I wish I could go back in time and have a band around then, but anyway I am still trying to capitalize on this sound that I am really digging right now.

    Freddy J - Very cool story, sounds like a great time to be young.  I think alot of people including myself and the younger generation are trying to bring new wave back.  Just check out the billboard charts and you'll see La Roux, she sounds like a total 80's synthesizer band.

    Creating Noise- Its funny you mention the Cars and B52s, I was not even going for it, but those bands are awesome.  Nice screen name by the way.

    Savageopera-  I hear ya on the vocals, I thought I needed a "d-e sser" ( I think thats how you say it) but maybe less of the chorus effect would help. Some of the vocals are cranked all the way up, I'll try your suggestions and see what happens.  I'm curious as to what point you are talking about where there is a dropped beat. I can't find it.

    Really cool song.  Well written and played.  Sorry I can't really help with the mix, but it sounds like you have some good ideas. Sometimes the vocals are a little hard to understand but overall sounds good to me. :-)
