Patch searching (Dim Pro example)

So, I know you can right click on the Patch widget and keyword search, which is great, but why does it not actually work most of the time? I select a patch and it doesn't transfer to the synth.

My current example is with Dim Pro. I suspect selecting a patch in Dim Pro trumps the track widget but nevertheless I selected a patch in Dim Pro (an Accordion if you wanna keep track at home). Now I find myself wanting a different sound. I can't locate any decent search within Dim Pro (a gripe unto itself) so I search in the track widget for an Ocarina sound. Oh lookee, it says there is one! Patch #79 (whatever the frak that means since Dim Pro doesn't categorize like that). So I select it, but the Accordion remains selected in Dim Pro. Sigh.

And of course Dim Pro doesn't offer ways to change the patch organization (toggling between default and a master alphabetized list would be awesome).

Yah, I just don't get the heirarchy of precedence. Well, that and it just doesn't work right.

Well, I've never been the hugest fan of the patch browser... but I'm surprised the SONAR integration is so incongruent.

    Things I'd love to see:
    • patches in virtual instruments show up in the track widget pane, they shouldn't be able to be different
    • the ability to add metadata to patches in SONAR, so that you can somewhat customize your library
    • a frickin' search function inside of DimPro, or at least the ability to sort the master list in different ways
I came across a thread that referred to a master list of DimPro patches on the SONAR wiki, which sadly has been yanked. (the entire wiki, not the list)

Keep in mind that the plugin itself must reveal its parameters, patches, etc, to the host (Sonar in this case).
If a plugin does not interact appropriately with the Host, there's not much the Host can do about that.

But, I think, overall, what's needed is a 'standard' of some sort for all these types of things (patches, patch browsing, searches, etc, etc).

Yeah, I knew a long time ago without having the technical knowledge that this is a finger-pointing situation. It's just kind of lame that we can put a man on the moon (FORTY years ago no less) but I still can't find a frickin' ocarina inside DimPro.

LOL, now that's a good argument :)  And I agree.  But, putting a man on the moon was a huge project involving many people who all had the "same goals," basically.

In the software market, there are many opposing and/or juxtaposing goals.   That makes it tough to get a consensus, I think.
