Velocity editing problem

Hey guys, apologies if this has been posted before.

I've got a strange problem with my copy of Sonar 7 Producer Edition. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, and had trouble with the 64-bit version (I recall it being something to do with not being able to rewire), so I'm using the 32-bit version.

However, when in the piano roll and I attempt to adjust velocities at the bottom of the screen (instead of dragging the little thing by the actual notes on the grid), there's a bizarre bug when it suddenly adds loads of notes onto the grid that I didn't want. It's hard to explain, but the action isn't undoable which means I have to go through the piano roll and delete all the notes it added on.

Like I said, a bit hard to explain so if it's unclear I can provide screenshots a bit later on, but hopefully someone has heard of the problem.

Cheers

Are you trying to "draw" the velocities using the draw tool and instead of changing the velocities of existing notes it is adding new notes or controller data? If so, go to Options/PRV Tool Configuration. Next to Tool, select PRV Tool 2 (Draw). If the Tool Action is set to any of the "paint notes" options then that is probably your problem.

Set it to Insert/Move Note/Controller, which is the default action. Hope that helps.

+1.  That has to be the issue here.

Once you have the tool set right, it's a breeze to edit velocities.  You can sweep through however fast you want, changing the values.  100 times faster than right clicking on every single note and typing in a new value.

Hmm. It's set to the default one you said when I opened the program, I tried a bit of velocity editing with the draw tool and it was fine, but the problem here occurs whenever the program feels like it, sometimes it's fine.

So it might be a case of the program loading up those options randomly, or is there a keyboard shortcut I might be hitting accidentally that might activate the paint notes option?

IIRC, the default for painting notes is Ctrl + Draw Tool.

I have a history of breaking mice. Too heavy-handed (heavy fingered?), I guess. Anyway, the last two times I had to replace a broken mouse the symptoms initially showed up in the SONAR PRV and were manifested by unwanted notes being intermittently inserted while dragging a note or adjusting its velocity.

Probably not your problem, but worth mentioning.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
