Help! Motherboard/CPU recommendations PCI quad
My computer has died. I need to set up another one quickly. I use Sonar 8.5 and Pro Tools HD3 PCI, so I need 3 adjacent PCI slots for Pro Tools cards. Another PCI slot for my MOTU 424 card would also be good. I'd like to go with a recent, currently available model and a quad processor. The Pro Tools cards have an extra tab that is used in PCI-X slots, so the PCI slots need some room behind them for the full-size PCI cards. Newegg must have 600,000 motherboards. Anyone have any recommendations for me? Any of you running Pro Tools 8 HD on your PC with Sonar? Thanks

I figured there wouldn't be a lot of PCI Pro Tools HD users here, but it was worth a try. I think I found a great system, installing now.

Mac Tower Power is what you want and they make an external PCI Card unit that holds up to 6 cards I believe... it's been a while since I was looking at them... I will try and dig up a link....

Here is a link to a company that makes them.... I'd get a MAC Tower and Load it to the brim with Quad processing and RAM then get one of these bad boys and you have enough space to have whatever you want. http://www.magma.com/6slot.asp

Sonar doesn't run natively on a Mac. You'd have to use BootCamp and that's not always reliable.

You can install Leopard on a PC and can install Windows on a MAC... You can do a search for the instructions but you can they are both the same thing.. motherboard, external devices.. and a hard drive which you can install an operating system on.. any operating system

It's an intel H55HC or something, I'll check when I get home. I'm considering Win 7, I just want to make sure I can still use CD Architect and Pro Tools 8, and my plugins.
