input Monitor kill on playback?

Hello, new to the forums here, a lot of great info!

I wanted to know if anyone knows how to turn Input Monitoring off during playback.  In other words, I want to be able to monitor the input when idle, but I don't want to hear it when I playback the track, only once I've hit Record (punched in)... I believe this may be a feature not available on 6.2.  Anyone know which version I'd have to upgrade to?

Thanks!

You have to manually turn it on and off AFAIK.

Thanks, that's what I've been doing, which is not very practical!  I read somewhere else that someone thought S8PE had a Global option to disable input echo on playback, can anyone confirm this?

Are you saying htere isnt that option in sonar 6?

It may be in your aud.ini file. Look for this DisableIMDuringPlay and change it to 1

Correct, no such option in 6.  There's no aud.ini file, only a cakewalk.ini and no hook mentioning anything to do with IM during play, et. al.

      There's no aud.ini file,

Thats impossible. If you have a soudn card defined in sonar, you have an aud.ini file. So do a custom search and check the box that says search for hidden folders and youll find it and then tweak that setting that i posted above

I'm running win7U with indexing on, searched aud.ini, nothing.  I'm not hiding folders/files of known types and/or system files/folders.

    My AUD.INI lives here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Application Data\Cakewalk\SONAR 8 Producer Edition

Not exactly where you'd expect it.

EDIT: This is on an XP machine

I dont think your understanding. You dont hide them, but windows does.

I'm not on 64bit OS yet, but I think on Win7 it's Users rather than Documents and Settings, otherwise it's the same structure.

Someone on Win7 might be more exact however, and could offer the correct folder AUD.INI resides in.

CJ is right.  There has to be an AUD.INI.  Sonar creates it.
If it's *really* not there, something is wrong -- unless, as CJ points out, it's somehow in a hidden or system folder that's hidden.

BUt that also would mean something is wrong.

Use the edit function in the audio properties menu to get to it.  (I think that existed in 6). Sonar only looks at one audio ini file and it is the one that the editor takes you to.

Yea, windows automatically hides these kinds of folders. So you need to check search for hidden folders whne doing the search for your aud.ini
After you find it, change this DisableIMDuringPlay = 0  to a 1, so it looks like this DisableIMDuringPlay = 1

I have mine set to not do that, so zero is the right settign for me. 1 will enable this options

Hmm, I think you're right - the "application data" folders are hidden by default.  I always unhide by default LOL.

They hide these kinds of folders because they don't want the regular Joe to find them by mistake and change settings that are unknown to that user.
So they hide them for out own safety..LOL

I understand perfectly :)  What I meant was I wasn't hiding them because I chose to show all hidden folders and files in Windows folder options, I do that by default.

I found it finally here:  C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR 6 Producer Edition

Not sure why my search didn't yield aud.ini though...

With that said, there is no DisableIMDuringPlay option in aud.ini.  Here are the contents:

I did add DisableIMDuringPlay to the Initialization File in Options menu and set it to 1.  On the other hand, I'm not connected to the Firepod at the moment so all it is displaying are properties for the internal sound card.

I'll be able to test next week when @ the studio to see if this produces any results.

Thanks again for all your help!

Not sure why my search didn't yield aud.ini though... With that said, there is no DisableIMDuringPlay option in aud.ini. Here are the contents:

    D,

I don't think they introduced that feature until 8.x, though it might have been in 7.x as well.
I'm pretty sure it was not in 6 though.
