Use a Roland VS-880 as a midi controller in Sonar 8.5?

I have someone who is selling a Roland VS-880 very cheap and I wanted to know if I could use the VS-880 as a midi controller to use the transport, faders, etc using Sonar 8.5 PE... Thanks!

P.S. Does the Roland VS-880 have motorized faders? If so will it be bi-directional if it works?

Basic trasport Controls may work but the faders dont send MIDI data.
A bad buy - the VS-880 is a clunky old beast.
You would be much better off with a Roland A-PRO Controller
And the small one is pretty affordable.

    A-300PRO : http://www.roland.com/products/en/A-300PRO/index.html

It uses ACT so it seamlesly integrates with whatever you have on your screen. Built for Sonar. The flexibility, integration and ease of use make it a way better deal.

    Good luck

The drummer that I work with was a VS-880 guy that I turned on to Sonar. I set him up with an old terratec sound card that had spdif in/out . I was able to get the faders and transport to work in sonar (faders don't fly though) and he's able to use the mic pres on the VS and also monitor through itvia spdif. He was pretty happy.
I don't know if I would buy one to do this. But if you've got one hanging around....

Sorry to hijack thread here, but does anyone know if it is possible to rip all the audio from the vs880 in one go or output more than just 2 channels of at a time?

Reason being is that we used to use one with our band, now it's no longer in use and there is stuff on there we would like to keep for the achives, but recording 2 tracks at a time in sonar will take me a week or so lol.

    Cheers.

If you have the built in CD burner you can burn individual track wave files and then just import them into Sonar

jben - I sure wish I understood what I just read. I think you're saying that if I have an old 880 (I've got 2) then I may be able to use them in a limited fashion as controllers for Sonar 8.5. If that's the case could you dumb down your message a little for a newbie like myself? I'm not sure I follow the use of SPDIF in what I thought was a MIDI interface. I have a Creative SB Live card with SPDIF. Will that help?
