MC5 truncates recording

I am recording some old reel to reel tapes into MC5. It looks like it is working fine: I see the sound waves on the track until the end. When I stop the recording, I find I have only the first few minutes recorded. This worked fine for the first tape, only on the second tape has this started.
Any theories?

Do you have the punch in recording enabled by accident?  From what I understand. MC should record quite a long while. What you might want to try is to record one song from the reel to reel at a time.

you can put them into separate projects OR, use the multi tracking capability and record song #1 on track one...... song # 2 on the R2R on track 2 after muting track 1..... and so on.

I don't think I am using the punch in, unless by accident. How would I check this? I am defragging my drive now and removing all power saving options.

Thanks Git-Hacker - I cleaned up the harddrive and defragged.....then decided it makes sense to break the recording up into smaller tracks anyway. So half way through the reel I save the project and start a new track. Makes it more manageable - the next phase is to start pulling the individual songs into their own tracks, but first I want to get them off the old tapes - some of which go back to 1964 and are starting to crumble in my hands.....

Tape will do that. It also looses it's magnetism and prints a ghost image if left on the reel too long.
