Pretty cool tune.  The snare stands out a little too much IMO.  I was straining to hear the bass, which sounds pretty cool.  Nice job.

    Thanks Janet,

I am always torn with bass levels. Its my primary instrument but I try not to dominate my mixes with bass. That would just look bad IMHO. I may have trimmed too far this time ;)  I agree about the snare levels. I am using a set of loops for the drums and I feel the snare is harsh as well. I'll have to see if I can pinpoint the harshness and pitch a little dip in the EQ.

    George,
This sounds like a really great tune.  Unfortunate, I can't get past that exteremly distracting snare.  I'm listening on PC speakers, which I have used extensively to help me determine how my mixes translate.  You really need to fix this.

I like what you've done, but I'm limited to what I can comment on.  How about a "remix" so we can offer more constructive feedback?

    George,
I just went through and listened to some of your songs.  You're a talented musician and a great Bass player.  You really have some technical skill for Bass guitar.  I really liked Master Funk and Fresh Breath for the Revolution.  They both have a lot of sax playing and incredible Bass playing too ( I play sax)  If you are ever willing to do some collaborations on some tunes I might have requiring some of your tight funk playing I'd be willing to offer to play sax for you.  I lack some technical skill but it sure beats midi sax.  You can listen to my stuff as listen for yourself (Mary Did You Know, Serenity).  You be the judge.

Anyway, I like your music and your production chops!

    Thanks Rich,

The snare was very harse and I've put up another mix that has the mids on the drums scooped out.

I'm definitely interested in collaborating and hate my midi sax ;)

If you feel like doing a track on one of my existing tunes or have something where you want me to track bass feel free to PM me. Otherwise if, I start on another horn number I will drop you a note.

On the cans, I like the snare, but there is some doubling of it at some points that is causing out of phase. With some slight eq and compression it will really work.

The tune is okay. Though it is a bit too much musically for chill/lounge. Bass is awesome and should have a better spot for itself in the mix.

Overall, the mix needs some mastering, as it is kinda lifeless.

    George,
This mix sounds much better.  The Bass is more pronounce.  I will have to listen again when I get back to my DAW.

Regarding a colab, I'd love to help out.  Unfortunately, it will be at least another 3 weeks minimum before I get to play again.  I had a little mishap with some oral surgery and a fractured jaw.  My pie hole is wired shut at the moment and don't expect to be un-wired for another three weeks.  I'll have to wait and see.

    Hey Rich,

sorry to hear about your jaw. I listened to your music and really like what you do. Please hit me back when you recover and I'll say a prayer that things go well for you.

yep, very proggy. some intense bass/key moments there. i like the mid-section with the more ethereal synths and guitar. mix sounds ok for me, reading above seems like you have fixed some issues. maybe i'd like a little more variety in the drums, just to get more dynamics in there.
