Midi Clips question

When I double click on a midi clip it seems to show me all the notes in the entire track..Is there a way to look at only the midi notes that are within a single clip instead of seeing all the notes in the track? I'd like to move and arrange the notes with a specific clip. Thanks.

Upright, I'm not understanding what's not working for you exactly - It's confusing to see the whole track?

When you double click a MIDI clip, that's opening up the Piano Roll View, which is the heart of MIDI in Sonar.  That's where you do most of your editing.

This method may help you out.  With the PRV open, move the boundaries so just one track is still visible at the top in the Track View--the track with your MIDI clips.

Here's a screen shot.  You'll see clearly one clip is selected.  The notes are available for editing in the PRV, but there's no confusion about what notes are actually in the second clip--because you have a visual aid in that open Track View.  See?   I think that should help.

Awesome. PVR,  I had completely forgot about that. I don't do a lot of midi editing, I work mostly with raw audio.....thank you very much for you time and help!

There is also an option in the PRV to show the clip outlines. Click the Show/Hide MIDI Events menu (located in the upper left of view just below the toolbar) and choose the Show Clip Outlines option.

Ok I've just opened up the project I'm working on and when I click PRV mode it's not allowing me to see a separate Track View like I see in your photo above.

Let me explain exactly what I'm doing.

Double click Midi clip> which opens the piano roll

From there I'm not sure how to enter PRV...the only method I know for opening PRV mode is the small icon located in the right hand corner of the midi track just above the FX section located in the main track view of Sonar.

Edited: I think I see what you are doing....it appears that you are opening two windows one with the main track view showing the clips and the other window with the PRV mode opened...is this correct? If so I believe I understand. Thanks

    Howdy, Upright

The screen shot is with tabbed view enabled.  In the main menu under View, the last option is to enable tabbed view - It's the way I always work so I can jump back and forth between a lot of different areas.  One of the main toolbars has a row of icons for all the possible views - track, console, prv etc.  Being visually oriented like a lot of us, those are the controls I rely on.

With the PRV enabled for the tabbed view, your screen is split into four sections, with all the tabs in the lower right quadrant.  Grabbing the boundaries of the lower right hand section, you can make each part of the screen as large or small as you want.  At some points in a project, I have the PRV smaller, other times, larger.

In the screen shot, I moved the boundary down just enough so I could see one track above it in the track view which is a primary screen and can't be tabbed.  I have it showing the same track which is in the PRV - I can clearly see the start and end of each clip.

    Better?
