Newbie Recording Guitar Please Help!!!

I'm new to using recording software and I need help. Instead of playing the same riff over and over again how to I repeat the riff with a smooth transaction instead of there being a gap after i copy and paste it at the end of the sound clip?

Make sure Snap-to-Grid is on, this will ensure the copy will snap in perfectly on the measure.

There should also be options available, see Help files; Snap to Grid, options such as; magnetic strength (defaults to medium) and notes; Measure (default), Whole, 8ths, 16th, and whatever.

Alternatively you can also activate 'Loop', then setup up start and end markers.  It will then playback the same riff repeatedly.

Use Groove Clips. Take the tutorial on Using Groove Clips.

    Hi there Deen
    • Do you want to use the looped riff to listen to while recording other parts of the song?
    • Or are you intending for the looped riffs you want to make actually being part of your final song?
If it's the former, getting the timing exactly right and splitting the clip isn't that important. Record about nine or ten repetitions of the riff and split off repetition 7 or 8 to convert to a groove clip - by then, you'll have dropped into the rhythm and the timing will be more natural (recording just one version of the riff is unlikely to allow you to be in perfect time and tempo).

If it's the former, I'd strongly advise not using this method. By recording the whole song in real time, the slight nuances you will unavoidably create in the riffs will make the song sound much more natural; the 'perfect' sounding repetition of the same loop will be very noticable in the finished project.

Also, use the metronome or a click track.
The loops will reference the project clock, so you must play in sync with that.
Otherwise, it will be nearly impossible to get your loops to start and end at the right point.

Amen to that, it's all about capturing a performance, like someone said, play to a click, or fire some drum loops in and play to that

Just to put my two cents in as well. When I started recording with cake walk I was initially excited about the prospect of possibly not having to play the rhythm guitar parts for an entire song. But in the end there are no short cuts no matter what you do it won't ever sound as good as if you just played it. The upshot of playing it all the way through is that you will become a much better guitar player and musician. I will never consider myself much of a rhythm player as I don't really enjoy doing it, but at least now I can do it......
