WTC Construction Site

We are having our kitchen, bath and laundry rooms renovated so we are going out on the weekends.  I stayed with my son at the Millennium Hilton on the 38th floor overlooking the WTC construction site.

Here was my view taken with my iphone.  It gives you a good idea of the magnitude of the project and the progress that has been made.  I included one photo (kinda’ silhouetted) of my son for perspective.

    oh that looks really cool.

    Arnt they building a memorial there? Looks like it'll be more than just a memorial and a park.

    Do you get the hee bee gee bee's looking at it in person. The pure evil of what those bastards did? Whether it was an inside job or not it was evil....

    but what ever they are doing it looks massive

    Cool shots Dave. I was there last month. I go down to the site a few times a year, just to see the progress. Great to see things from a different perspective.

    I believe the large square "pit" in the middle, the walls are covered in granite, is the memorial.

    Still can't even think about this without feeling the rage build up.
     
    I live about 1/2 hour drive time from the Flight 93 site. Construction has finally started on the memorial there.

    All that work and the subway station is still operating.

    It's difficult to say it is impressive with enthusiasm... but I'm impressed.

    I hadn’t been to the site since I think ’02 and in terms of what has been accomplished … I was impressed.  It’s Manhattan so; the politics at every level of moving a project forward are, for lack of a better term, complex.

    In all honesty, prior to this weekend I had not followed the planning of the new site.  Here is the official WTC website.  The link is to the “Vision” and if you toggle the photos using the arrows, the 2nd photo shows the memorial.

    After reading the articles it looks like the 2 square features in my photos are the footprints of the twin towers which will be the memorial.  The first 2 photos are the 2 separate footprints (1 in each photo) and my 5th photo down shows both of them in 1 picture.
