HeavenSkate (Save Us Lord!)

HeavenSkate (Save Us Lord!) 2:58 minutes

General Audiences:  For all you roller skaters out there seeking a higher twirl!

1) A skating romp by That Heavenly Choir.  We rollerskate a lot so this song spun up (rather quickly I'm afraid).

2) (Lyrics are posted)

3) Please crit, suggest, etc.

4) The beats are abstractions from Sonar's venerable BeatScape.

5) I've tried to keep lyrics simple and easy to memorize

6) If any of you want to collab your vocs (lead or backing), guitar(s), etc. to this sketch you may download this and I'll copyright-share the collab with you.  (PM me)

I'm listening on mediocre speakers at the warehouse and the spread across the speakers is very cool.  I'll listen at home on the earphones.  I love when the kids get involved.  I have to agree that this might be my favorite of yours so far.  Dude, we all need some savin'!

    Philip,

I love the arrangement and production on this!

The children's voices add so much.

    Totally cool and creative.

THis is right to the point.  No meandering.  Very good, infectious pop.  I really dig the vocal arrangments and how they are mixed.  This is very streamlined for you and it sounds much more potent as the punch is direct.
Great mix to my ears, although i'm always in favor of a bit more bass (guitar?).  The vocals (you and offspring) sound superb on this.

I'm thinking..that this is one of the best tunes out of you yet Philip! Nice, low thump on the kick, vocals/harmonies are done very well, and the mix is clear. It looks like you went for a bit less instrumentation this time around, but, it actually fills up the space nicely. The piano is a real treat. Impressive and creative! You've been sitting in the 'think-tank' and come out with guns blazing man!!

Thanks all for your listen and crits!  My day job has slowed me a bit:

Rolifer:  Thanks for your swift listen and thoughts.  I always cherish your thoughts and words

Notnat:  Thanks for encouragement.  Melodyne, yes ... I can't sing bass and needed a bass singer; Mel_ fixed that.  Mel_ and I are sole-mates in this song.
I asked our skating rink owner how much he'd take for his rink ... "1.2 million" he protested!  (I think it was worth about 2-300,000 max.)  But I bought some skates online ($200) and will skate more oft.

GuitarHacker:  I am greatly humbled by your keen encouragement.  Its tricky to get a song 'inspired' and going with the lazy man that I've been.

Evadianepug:  Thanks for your encouraging listen and validation.  The kids always add a another counterpoint or counter ... else the boredom would plague things.  I'm convinced if a song is 'happy' with multi-vocs or special instruments ... these should be continued to further pieces.

Geeare1:  Very much thanks for your listen and encouragement!  I melodyned the kid samples ... mostly for correction, others for effects (spottingly).
ScottyTunes:  Thanks so much for your excellent encouragement and thougths on the message.  I'm getting old (54), so messages need to be pretty strong for me ... so I read a Psalm or 2 and the song came together.

No How:  Ah, the tinny synth bass-line.  I got so wrapped up in the funky kick that I forgot to use the synth bass samples more strongly with the kick.  I'll enhance it in the kick sections and/or some counters.

Janet:  Ironically, I spent an inordinantly small amount of time on this sketch (a couple cheap piano riffs, cello beatz, no guitar (does it need guitar?), too many vox samples, etc.) ... thanks to Sonar's beatscape.  So, I'll gladly accept your compliment and will polish up the vox clutter.  Thank you Janet!

Man, for a moment I thought I was lost in the funhouse instead of the skating rink.  Kinda scary, but very cool, creative, innovative piece here. It is sort of "techno disco" sounding so I would like to hear a little thumpier rythm section(eq)...............great fun and God Bless............Ron

SlowMarching Band:  Thanks so much for your powerful encouragement.  I don't know how I 'thought this up'; I just went wildly adhoc from the BeatScape grooves.

SavageOpera:  I will follow your excellent notions in verses and counters and such ... where the hip-hop baselines won't overwhelm the backing vocs ... after I've adjusted some extraneous vocs (per Janet).

Wow! How masterful this song is. Never--I mean never even near--a dull note. So much variety. Everything in tune and the right volumes. And so imaginative.  Every word clear, too. Very clean, professional sounding.

    Hey Philip
WOW...very original out of the box piece. I loved everything about this piece. Your performance, the kids vox and the mix are stellar. You have a lot going on with the lead vox and harmonies. The way you placed them and your panning/effects really gave the mix a fat full sound. If I had a nit I think it would add just a bit more thump to the low end of the percussion(kick drum). Performance and mix wise I think this has to be one of your best so far. EXCELLENT JOB!

DrumStixKev:  I haven't heard from you in a while.  I hope you are doing OK?  I will most certainly follow your advice (strengthen the kick ... maybe a bit more bass in the counters)!  Thanks so much for taking your expert time to listen and crit.

PeggySueChanThank you for your exceedingly encouraging crit!  You know how hyper-sensitive we oft get after we ponder on our hopeful pieces.  I've always admired your songs and am glad you ran into me.  (btw, I love you signature.)

    Hey Philip
I agree with everything written above, you've taken onboard the crits from your last song (primarily that your ultra-intense instrumentation didn't really work with the more commercial beats) and produced a fantastic song here. Although definitely YOU it's a case of less=more. Firstly, a mad idea, but hey, this is Philip! Great tune, great performances from la famille, and the mix is your best yet off the bat; clear but full, drums are at the perfect level, the piano drives on the song, and the electronic flourishes work much better with the electronic beat than big band/vaudeville instruments which you use on your other tunes.
i have nothing to criticise here, it is just brilliant sir!

    Thanks MGH,

You've always been an extremely brilliant yet sympathetic composer in my perception.

Your crits (and crits of other seasoned artists) are like railroad switches in my brain.  I switch style-tracks based on your timely-suggestions ... to get 'there' (if that makes sense)

The artist (oil-painter) wrestles: Spontaneity vs. vibe vs. polish vs. performance ... style, the Grace of God, etc.

This is absolutely 'off the hook' fantastic.

The production style is reminiscent of Buggles ('Video Killed the Radio Star' remember that one?)

There's nothing here that jars or doesn't fit, it all sounds on the money, therefore no crits, just pure enjoyment here.
