What headphones should I buy?

I'm looking to buy some headphones, not for mixing or studio use, just for casual listening.

Wanna spend between £60 - £120 (About $90 - $190??)

Not bothered about how they look, I'm not really keen on the whole Skullcandy brand

I listen to all types of music so I dont particularly need them to be prominent in bass or treble, just decent clear sounding all round

any recommendations?? Oh comfort is important too

thank youuuuu :)

Sennheiser HD-595 here... love them. And they come with this cool little holder that clamps to a desk. Also, I like them over many of the other Senns because the cable is only on one side, no Y to get caught up in.  The sound is flat enough but also flattering to listen with.

If you want amazing frequency response like no speaker in the world has the Beyerdynamic DT 770s do the trick. However, the high end can be a bit much after an hour or so.  The HD-595s sound more like listening to great speakers at a normal distance.

My ears and needs are by nature not yours, but I have some recent experience.

I have five great headphones now, and a little over a month ago I had two.

I have owned a set of AKG K140s since th dawn of time. I couldn't use them because the pads deteriorated, but for US$15 I replaced them and the headphones sound great - very loud and balanced, not nice but useable for anything.

A few years ago, as the AKGs turned to dust, I spent some money on a pair of BeyerDynamic DT990Pro and these are amazing. I've always liked Beyers and these did not disappoint - very accurate with any source (they make bad stuff sound bad and good stuff sound good), very comfortable, but they are open-back and I needed a pair of closed-back for tracking.

I wanted some nice Ultrasones, but I didn't want to spend US$300 for the ones I wanted. I did some research, and decided to buy a pair of Audio Technica M50 without hearing them. I found them at US$95 with shipping and tax after some looking. They sound good, but the midrange is a little honky compared even to my AKGs. Definitely a great value, but not great headphones.

The next day after I bought the ATs, I saw the $300 Ultrasones 650s for $99! I splurged and ordered them. I like them a little better than the ATs,  and AKGs, still no competition for the BDs.

I also have a pair of Shure E5 IEMs, which can sound great when properly fitted, but IEMs are a hassle when tracking.

I've never been a fan of Sennheisers for some reason, and I think the Sonys are only good for location work, but your opinions on the sound of any transducer are the only opinions that count.

Went to a store in Birmingham today guys, tried out LOADS of headphones and ended up with these :)

I know they're like way over my price range but they just sounded ridiculously good, exactly what I wanted a pair of headphones to sound like so I took the plunge!

I'd recommend them to anyone else who's in the same pickle

One of the main things for headphones for general use besides sounding good.....

be sure they are comfortable if you listen for longer periods of time. Nothing worse than a painful set of cans halfway through a CD.

Sennheiser HD-280.  These are particularly good for tracking because they have very little leakage.

True that. But they are TIGHT! I found them to be very uncomfortable, but I don't think my head's that big... YMMV.

My favorites are the Beyerdynamic DT770 (for closed) or DT990 (for open) but they're a bit pricey.  Very, very comfortable.

For pleasure listening I like the Audio Technica ATH-M50 which I thought weren't very accurate, but very nice to listen to.  They're right in the OP's price range.
