A new song by Jonas and Plunkett

Hello all,

I've been away from these forums for a couple of years.  I've moved around the world and started a family in the interim.

But recently I dusted down the recording equipment and got together with my mate Jonas to work on some more songs.

If you can spare 3 minutes, I'd be very grateful for your thoughts on our new song "Uncovered in your eyes".  It's on our website: http://www.jonasandplunkett.com  It should start playing automatically when you open the website.

We're still at the tweaking stage, but most of it is done now.

Thanks for listening!

Adrian

Hey Adrian- Excellent song, very nice vocals.  I like the piano and guitar combo.  Very nice job.  I agree with BDude, snare comes in a bit too loud and is a little distracting.

Thanks guys.  I was thinking the same myself, but I've heard it too many times to be objective.

I'll reduce the velocity on the snare drum.

    Cheers,

I found it very easy to listen to.  On this end the snare didn't sound too loud, but maybe too "bright".  I can't explain that except to say maybe too shallow?  I don't touch those type of things too much because I can't explain my thoughts.  That's them, though.  I'm glad you're back here though, this is a wonderful tune!! You might even try it without the snare and with a tambourine or something else.  See, that's why I stay away from those types of critiques.  Great song.

Beautiful song and well performed. The snare? Yeah...over the top.

Wow, I haven't heard you guys in a long time. As usual, though, you show strong songwriting skills, good vocal interplay. Generic drums track, a just-there bass track, but I don't think that what it's all about here. It may not be the best I've heard from you, but it's still good.

Wow. What voices. Great vocal harmonies. The build works. At first  where all the music drops out and the vocals solo at 1:58, works. But then the solo voices go on too long--for a good 10 seconds. Can't you start introducing instruments slowly into those solo vocals and not let them solo so long?

This song sounds so professional that I think I'm hearing a hit off the radio or something from a vinyl record album.

Well - as usual the comments on here have been really useful.

I've edited the track and reloaded it to my website.

I've decided to go back to basics again.  I've cut the drums completely - in the end, I just felt that they didn't suit the track.  This is an acoustic ballad, and quite melancholy.  So it doesn't need a feet-tapping beat!

I've also re-recorded the piano to make it "looser" (still a work in progress), deleted the bass, and added a very subtle organ pad.

You can hear it here: http://www.jonasandplunkett.com

The new version is called "Uncovered in your eyes 2".  The name is a work in progress!

Hope you like.  Please please please keep the feedback coming; I'm planning on entering this song for a few competitions.

    Best wishes,
    Adrian

Your voice sounds really good. I would like to hear this recording in a real studio.

Dude...I love it. This kind of music is great. It reminds me of a cross between someone like William Fitzsimmons and Joshua Radin. The mix is crystal clear, and the minimalism is just spot-on.

Ah, I remember you guys – when I first heard Spaceship I said, ‘best song I’ve heard outside of FUV Radio in NYC”. You’re craftsman and artists… can’t say enough good without sounding like some half-assed fan. I love your compositions – the honesty and  subtlety that comes across in your music is a joy. I wish I could do what you do. Thanks for another wonderful tune.
