Transfering Projects to New Computer

I just recently upgraded from vista 32bit to windows 7 64.  I have painstakingly reinstalled all the software (which includes the native Komplete 6 set).  I copied the cakewalk projects folder over to an external drive.  When I open the .cwp files on the new computer, the audio data shows up just fine, but I lose all of the settings that I had for the native software instruments (for instance, guitar rig 4 doesn't load with any of the amp +effects that I had on the other computer).  After searching for quite a while now, I have decided to come consult you experts to see if you have any ideas what's going on with this.  Thanks!

Welcome to the new age of 32  goes 64 ( and why I'm still 32 ha ha)
I think you have some work ahead of you son. Seems there is a program called like bit bridge that will let you run older plug ins .  and also running a 32 bit version Sonar will solve some issues.

Thanks for your reply.  Ouch.  That's going to be a large pain on the "---" (from your signature).  I'll try installing the 32 bit version of 8.5 producer and see if that helps.  Would there be any complications having both the 64 bit and a 32 bit installed?

You can have both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of Sonar installed on the same PC.  The only "complication" you might have is that certain 32-bit plug-ins register using unique GUID values into the operating system registry.  Some vendors use the network ID to derive these GUIDs.  With that, you might have some plug-ins from your previous machine that reference a network ID that is most likely going to be different in the new PC.  If that is the case, you'll probably wind up having to removing the invalid plug-in from your project and add it again so that it can be found the next time you open the project.  I've seen this with Wave Arts plug-ins I have on a few projects when I migrated to a new PC.

Also, to answer your potential next question, the same project can be opened in 32-bit and 64-bit Sonar without much problems.  The only real difference is that if you use a 64-bit plug-in in the project, the 32-bit project won't be able to access it unless you use something like jBridge (instead of BitBridge).

    Hope this helps,
    Tom

I assume you saved the settings for plugs and instruments as presets.

I did not read that you exported presets and then imported on the new installation.

Also, some instruments/plugs save presets to folders. If you have not, locate where each plug has saved its info, and copy those folders to the new install's proper location.
