Sonar 8.5.3 Won't Recognize Third Party VST Plugin

I downloaded the free Solid State Logic LMC-1 VST plugin but Sonar won't recognize it. I made sure it's in the proper directory and I scanned the VST plugins several times using the VST Plugin Manager. I'm running Sonar on Windows 7 64 bit so I don't know if this is the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

Check to see which of your VST folders the ".dll" file went into.  It should go into the program files (x86)/cakewalk/vst folder...or perhaps in the program files (x86)/steinberg/vst folder.  Make sure it's in one of those AND NOT in the plain program files/cakewalk/vst as that is the 64 bit folder.

Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

Thanks yorolpal! It initially wanted to go into the x86 folder during install but I thought I was being clever and forced it to go into the program folder. Oh well! I'll uninstall it and let it install itself into the x86 folder. I guess I'll need to add that folder in the global options VST tab, right?

In testing out some demos, I've also run into situations where Sonar doesn't recognize some of these VST's. BTW, I'm on XP (32bit), I've set up a folder (FREE VST's) inside Program Files>Cakewalk>Free VST's and have avoided putting these demo's/freebies inside the Cakewalk>VST folder.
During a particular scan on the demo's/freebies folder, it will scan upto a point and then just stop scanning at a particular VST (ex. ACE synth) as if it's completed the scan. I've tried taking that VST out and putting it in a different location and adding that location to the scan list. Then after rescanning multiple times, some of them still don't show up. (I've downloaded these demo VST's from their respective sites, so I'm pretty sure they all couldn't be currupted??).
So, I've taken those "unscannable" VST's out and just placed them on my desktop......but, I'd like to test some of these demo VST's before purchasing. I suppose a last resort would be to delete all of the demo/free ones and start again.....

I tried installing the VST into the (x86) folder but that didn't do the trick either.. Hmm.. ? Maybe it's just incompatible with 64 bit environment?

nah it more than probable works.. your bringing it up in the fxbin or your console view  right?

I'm guessing / remember it's a vst-effect.. not an instrument

I'd check it, but well I don't wanna register with them.

I installed it and it seems to work fine in Vista x64 (SONAR 8.5.3PE 64 bit). It auto installs into my default VST 32 bit plugin folder, and  is listed in the main menu as "Solid State Logic (SSL LMC-1)" - does it show up as an excluded plugin in the Cakewalk Plugin Manager (Show Excluded)?

LOL - I went to the website to have a look - then saw the reg requirement and thought the same thing. Then, I tried my usual login credentials and, sure enough - I was already registered. I am a recovering plugin harlot. Free, cheap, easy. Don't hate me.

sometimes free is good, but well .. you have to have to sort a lot of wheat from the chaff..

e.g. got a lot of time for the TAL synths. bassline etc

I think I did sign up for that ages ago , but got junk mail back about their cards
