Can Cakewalk Pro Audio 8 run on a new Windows 7 installation?

I've just done a new installation of Windows 7 (home premium) 64 bit, and I want to know if I can run Pro Audio 8 on it.
I've owned PA8 for over 10 years now, and I know it's getting old, but I still have quite a few projects saved as PA8 .bun & .wrk and would like to still access them.
I've tried installing it, but I get all kinds of problems with the splash screen, not being able to set the Wave Data folder, etc. etc.

If I can't run it properly under Win7 is there any newer version I could upgrade to which will still open PA8 .wrk and .bun?

I have read on the forum that it is possible to run PA9 on Win7. I don't know about PA8 though. I have PA9 and WinXP.

What I do know is that if you want to attempt it you need to run Pro Audio in Compatability Mode for Win7.
