Stands to put my Monitors on...

Hello people!

My home studio is constantly evolving - i have finally managed to negotiate myself out of the corner (cuz corners are evil) and am currently setting myself up along the middle of a wall.

I'm thinking it's a good time to put my Monitors (see my Specs below) on stands - but i have no idea where to start. I don't want to mount them on the wall cuz my girlfriend wouldn't like it.

So...monitor stands...
Does 'one size fit all?'
Are they adjustable?
Expensive?

I don't want to build my own because i'm really not good at that.
Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks everyone.
Dave

I buy the generic ones at Guitar Center. They are something like $60/pair. They have a vertical adjustment.

If I am on location and concerned about stability I place sandbags on the base.

I don't use the decoupling foam... I did it once when I was a kid... I also tried macrame hangers... I just don't get it.

    best regards,
    mike

    Thanks Mike

I've done some searching and found some Samson MS200 Studio Monitor Stands.
These look like the kind of thing i'm imagining.

These kind of stands may affect the low frequency response of a monitor. It may not be important enough to worry about, but certainly in a high end studios the monitor stands are much more solid than that, very heavy. They can be expensive, but I built several stands with DM for little money, and if you order the DM panels already cut to measure, it is not much work. Two concentric prisms make height regulation easy to achieve.

I don't use the decoupling foam...

    Why is that Mike?

I just like the heavy cabinet with tiny spike feet on a concrete pillar theory more.

But that's from my hi-fi interests.

When using near fields I'm more interested in expediency, compact size, and cheap cost.

My speakers weigh 40lbs and the sub twice that. I'm not worried about the stands diverting energy somewhere.

    best,
    mike

    Wow, you got me there.
What is DM and how do you use "Two concentric prisms" as a height adjustment?
