Music Creator 2003 won't install

HI
 
I just tried to install my music creator 2003 on my machine and all it does is says that I don't have active x 8.1 and goes thru the motions of installing that and saying that active x 8.1 was installed successfully. Then I try to install music creator 2003 again and I get the message that I don't have active x 8.1 and it installs it again.
 
I tried several times and always the same thing happens.
 
My pc is an HP Emachine with xp home 2002 with service pack 2.
 
anyone know what I should do about this?

    Have you ever installed it before in it's 8-year history? Or has it been sitting in a desk drawer, unopened for 8 years?

    I installed it about a year ago on a machine with ME on it. Installed on that machine fine.

    Yeah, I had to re-install my MC 2003 after the hard drive crashed, and forgot all about that DirectX thing.
    That might have been the impetus that led me to discover this forum.

    Installed first time with the direct x utility.

    You might wish to consider updating to MC5. It has so many more nice things in it than MC3.
