Using Sonar with an EWi

Does anyone here use the Sonar softsynths with an EWI or other wind controller?

I tried editing Dimension Pro and Zeta the other day to make a few wind-controller-compatible patches with little luck.

Anyone got any tips?

Thanks for any help.

One simple way to do it is to use a MIDI FX that converts CCs to other CCs.

The wind/breath controllers generally are CC 2.  You can convert that to CC7 or 10 to make it "volume".  I've done it many times when doing horn parts using my Yamaha Breath Controller.

There were also some devices that did it as well - so you'd plug the controller into it, and it would do the conversion based on your settings.

But there are some utilities within sonar to do this - or you could go to TenCrazy.com and get their utilities (MIDI FX).

    Billy:

    Thanks for the idea.

For full wind-controller expressiveness, you need to disable all envelopes and make all appropriate volume, filter and other parameters respond to CC2.

I just don't see that depth of editing control on Zeta or DimPro, though I may be missing it.

Switching CCs sounds like it would add to the confusion, and I need as little confusion as I can get in my life.

The problem with using just one CC to affect all those controls (volume, filter, etc) is that they would affect each one differently.   Sending CC2 to adjust the filter may have a different depth than it may with volume, for example.

However, if I'm not mistaken, you can edit the MIDI parameters within Dimension Pro itself (MIDI Config I think it is?).  I don't know if those edits would be global or not, or stick when changing patches, however.

Let's hope. Doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in it, though.

    Bump.
