Roland TTS-1 outside of cakewalk
Hi, I'm a poor student who can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on VST instruments, but I want some quality sound for a project (for myself) I'm working on. I understand that the Roland TTS-1 that comes with cakewalk software is a good replacement for the general MS GM sounds (better than Sony's DLS library), but I want to use the soundbank outside of cakewalk software. If I purchase some basic cakewalk software such as Music Creator 5, is it possible to use it with another program (like using a VST?)

Hello, TTS-1 works perfectly in REAPER here, so I guess it's completely host agnostic :) I can also confirm it's a very good GM player, I also use it to lay quickly down songs drafts. Beware though: 1) It's a DXi plugin - this rules out latest cubase and other hosts that don't support DXi 2) It doesn't support 88.2 KHz sample rate - but supports up to 96KHz; don't ask me why they didn't support 88.2... 3) I don't know if it works on Vista and 7 - I have Win XP... Hope it helps, Mario

I have windows XP, and REAPER is definitely affordable. I was thinking of using Sony's cheaper software (for around the same price as a REAPER license) for it's interface and ability to do pitch bends using envelopes, but I'm not sure it could run TTS-1 and my demo license is running out. So thanks for your advice, you might have saved me an erroneous purchase.

You can definitely do pitchbend envelopes in REAPER ;) Cheers, Mario

Really, because I looked up "pitch bend in REAPER" and found people asking for the feature to be implemented earlier this year ...

You can already do it at track level using ReaControlMIDI. I think the feature being asked is doing it at single part (item or clip, whatever name) base, and this is indeed a feature request which is expected to be implemented fairly soon. - Mario

Oh alright, thank you. Once I finish paying for books, I think I'll take the plunge and buy Music Creator 5 for the TTS-1 and a REAPER license.
