SONARPDR cannot end
Whenever Sonar Producer 8.5 crashes (Win XP pro) I always need to rebood since I cannot restart Sonar. I check my running processes and SONARPDR is running. I am always unable to end this process. Any help is appreciated.

I usually encounter this as well, usually when i get a crash whilst re-wiring reason, would be interested to hear what the deal is myself

This can happen when a hardware interface such as a USB MIDI port wont close. Check if it is still open if so simply unplug it for a moment.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried both unplugging my usb keyboard and logging off. Neither works.

Ditto on the midi device that won't let it close. I had the same problem when my Tranzport wasn't working properly.

Yea, I had it happen three times to me today (SPE8.5.3 W7 64bit). It crashed once when I instantiated FM8 and twice when I instantiated Kore2. For me whatever happens is generally crashing the teleport server...i.e. BitBridge which then crashes me to the desktop. Then not even task manager will shut Sonar down...plus when I do go ahead and reboot the computer I get a blue screen memory dump as well. Annoying? You betcha!

John This can happen when a hardware interface such as a USB MIDI port wont close. Check if it is still open if so simply unplug it for a moment. When this happens with my Edirol UA-25EX USB interface, I've found that I need to unplug it for more than just a moment - more like 10 seconds. Then, after it's been freshly detected by my laptop, I re-open Sonar, then close it normally, and this stops the SONARPDR.EXE process.

Well perhaps a moment is a little short depending what one thinks a moment is.

John Well perhaps a moment is a little short depending what one thinks a moment is. Yeah. Thing is, it really did make a difference, at least in my setup. If I did a quick unplug/plug (which I'm prone to do when I'm frustrated and peeved), re-opening Sonar would still give me a "silent Master Bus" message - meaning, "no sound", and SONARPDR.EXE persisted. Whereas when I give it 10 seconds or so before re-plugging, I'm good. That said, sometimes when another program (like Band-in-a-Box) has been using the Edirol and ASIO, and I then open up Sonar too soon after closing the other program, the "silent Master Bus" thing won't go away no matter what I try. (...therefore full reboot, and a few choice words.)

What makes "The Teleport Server" so darn crash prone anyways?? Plus (and here I must once again show my imbecility) how do you log off and then log back onto W7?

It should be on you start menu where you shut down or restart.

Giant Crab I always need to rebood since I cannot restart Sonar. I check my running processes and SONARPDR is running. I am always unable to end this process. My experience with this problem had to do with unsigned drivers that were not fully compatible with the version of Windows that I was using. In my case it was the driver for the TASCAM US-428 control surface/sound card. I was able to get an unsigned driver installed and the unit worked fine with SONAR for the most part but I saw the kind of behavior that you are seeing with sometimes not being able to force a shutdown of the SONAR .exe running process through the taskmanager and having to do a reboot to be able to use SONAR again. The driver also caused Windows to hang during a shutdown so that I had to use the on/off button on the computer to do shutdowns and very occassionaly it caused a hang during a boot up.

Same Sonarpdr problem here. Sonarpdr will not shut down after a Sonar session. I noticed it because I could not restart Sonar without rebooting. I remember others complaining about it on the forum a while back but at the time I was running XP and did not have the problem. My USB driver for Tascam US122 hangs when I shut Windows 7HP down. I have to physically unplug before shuting down or hit the kill switch. Similarly I tried unplugging the USB as but could not get Sonarpdr to quit with the task manager (I did achieve an eventual blue screen though). I also tried using both the ASIO and WDM drivers but it didn't matter. Not a huge problem. I have some other weird stuff with my Windows 7HP computer and USB - like my USB ports are powered on even when the computer is off. I spent a little time on the device manager trying to turn off the ports but was unsuccessful.

Have you tried bringing up a command prompt and typing in taskkill /F /IM SONARPDR.exe as this sometimes works were the task manager doesn't.

This can happen when a hardware interface such as a USB MIDI port wont close. I believe I've experienced this issue with Korg USB MIDI drivers. Both M3 and PadKontrol

In my usual V-Vocal crashes Sonar will literally take up to 5 minutes to close out of my task manager, no matter what I try.

In my case I have PCI soundcard and I relate the crashes to faulty plugins. Or when I come to think of it, this sometimes happens when I press a key on the computer keyboard (usb).

I just wanted to reply by saying thanks to everyone who has chimed in on this issue. It looks like some have had somewhat similar issues. If I find a successful fix I will post. So far, only a full restart works for me.

So far, only a full restart works for me. A full restart is the successful fix. You nailed it! :) This crash happens to me also. One bit of advice is, do extensive testing on your PC's RAM, even if it is brand new. Use multiple programs to test. I've often got passing marks with one program, and failing marks with another on the same stick of RAM. A lot of times lockups and BSOD crashes are caused by flakey RAM and bad drivers. Another thing I've done to significantly reduce crashes with Sonar is, I set it to Auto-save my projects every 2 minutes. I'm guessing but I'm not sure, that it dumps the memory and writes it to the HDD and that's why it runs more stable for me? I can't say for sure, but it definitely significantly reduced the crashes I was getting. Good luck!
