Hey S. Wallis, I'm glad to see your thread "re-appeared". That is the information I was looking for. CM 0 is the ACT Sonar Map. Great. With that setup active do you drum pads on A1 thru A8? What are your rotories controlling? Sliders?

I don't use the drum pads (A1-A8) as drum pads, i use them as control buttons. For example, this is one of my set ups:
A1 = Mute selected track
A2 = Solo selected track
A3 = Arm selected track for recording
A4 - Write enable selected track
A5 = Select previous track
A6 = Select next track
A7 = Bounce to track
A8 = Undo

Sliders 1-8 control tracks 1-8 (or the next 8 tracks if i press shift and the foward button on my A-Pro). They also control various synth and effect parameters when i press B2 (or B3) on my A-Pro. Incedently, you can set up the A1-A8 buttons differently for B1,B2,B3 and B4 (i never use b4 though). This gives so much control through your A-Pro.

For example, if you look at my list above for the drum pads, and think "i wouldn't use that set up", then you can press B2 (or B3 or B4) and create another set up. Be advised though that the B1-B4 buttons change focus - B1 focuses the tracks, and B2-B4 focuses VST instruments and Effects. My above list is when focus is on tracks (B1) and i have a seperate list for when i'm working on VSTs (B2) which keeps some things (muto, solo, arm, etc...) but add others (bounce to clip, for example).

My rotary controllers control track pan when in B1, and synth and effect parameters when in B2 or B3.

The only reason i can think of is maybe the A-PRO Control Surface driver isn't installed? There's 2 seperate drivers for the A-PRO - one for the general keyboard installation, and another for use as a control surface. You can download it from here ---> http://www.cakewalk.com/S...eader.aspx/2007012938#

I've just reformatted my hard drive so had to install everything again, so i'll do another tutorial for X1 very soon.

Let me know if installing the control surface driver worked or not.

You were right on the money S. Wallis. I failed to install the Control Surface Plugin, mistaking the the Editor files for it. I installed it, it came up in add controllers/surfaces and away we went. I now have the A Pro 800, the PCR 800 and the V700C Console working together seamlessly. The PCR and A PRO also work when the V700C is selected as the control surface. This makes things much easier when practicing a part and recording it after a few runs. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. You Rock Dude!

Thanks S. Wallis.
And for dummies like me, you install the plug twice; 32 bit and 64 bit, if you are running Sonar both ways.

hey Mr. S.Wallis-

I've been struggling for a day and a half trying to control the soft synths within X1 with my new A800-Pro. No luck until I finally found your post.  Thanks so much for taking the time to post this.  I am up and running.  I plan on using this set up live, and you just saved this old analog head-

I don't use the drum pads (A1-A8) as drum pads, i use them as control buttons. For example, this is one of my set ups:

A8 = Undo

I have just recently bought an A-500 and the only thing I'm having an issue with is getting the drum pads to trigger keyboard shortcuts.

Clicking on their graphic in the control surfaces window causes the assigned shortcut to function, but once I close this window & hit a pad it stops working and produces a midi note instead.

I'm assuming I need to edit the control map in the A-Pro Editor but it only lists maps 1-19, and not 0?

And I've also noticed that my A-500 has all 4 'B' buttons permanently lit up when the ACT button is enabled.

Shouldn't only 1 be lit - i.e whatever function bank I'm currently in?

Finally fixed the above problems I was having...

Classic case of PEBKAC ( Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair  )

Didn't have the proper midi output port set in the controller / surfaces panel.

Once that was set correctly, the drum pads work fine as shortcut buttons for X1 functions.

Thanks S Wallis.  Wish you had written the manual for A Pro--- it is sadly lacking.  Love this forum!!

Thanks for this walk through SW which I have followed on trying to set up my A800 tonight - with no luck. I originally did not install the second driver and thought that was my problem but when I try to use the APRO settings suggested it blanks out the controller drop down menu - any thoughts - I see another poster on another thread had the same problem & gave up.

Oh I should say I am using Sonar LE - I was hoping it would work out of the box!

Shortly after writing the above I realised that I should have installed the 32 bit version of the control software with Sonar LE. Seems to be working now - though I imagine I will be back for more advice along the line!

I know I'm bumping a 3 year old thread, but the information here saved me a lot of frustration and it's still relevant for Sonar X2.  I spent a couple of hours last night trying to figure out why the A-PRO wasn't controlling transport in Sonar and figured it out in minutes after reading this post.  Wallis, you should be writing the Cakewalk manuals.  Thanks.
