moving Sonar 8.5 to new upgrade computer

I will be moving my Sonar 8.5...... producer to a new computer. I have it on a hard drive that I will be moving to the new computer it it works. It's coming out of a XP computer to windows 7 64 bit comp. With songs on the drive will it be better to start all over with sonar loading or will it be easy to take it off the one drive when I put it in the new comp.   Will I loose anything along the way....This is of course if anyone has tried this.

My own opinion is that there is very little gain in trying to 'move' applications from one computer to another.  The same amount of time can be invested in getting a really "clean" system going, since it is a new computer.

Also, you'll probably want Sonar 64bit version on the new 64bit computer, so "moving" your 32bit version won't get you that.

The only thing that would be problematic somewhat, when moving, is having to re-install and re-authorize any/all of the 3rd party plugins.   But again - there is more benefit starting clean.

You can easily move "Data" - to anywhere you like, however (ie, songs, etc) as they are not dependent on the OS.

I'm with Ba.  Start off clean.  Contact any of the plugin's mfg if you've already maxed out the install authorizations.  Be aware that some 'free' plugins won't be happy in the 64 bit arena, but experience has taught me that they are worth holding back everything for.  I took the approach if they were, then I was somehow placing more faith in them than my abilities  (but that's just me).

Good luck.  I've not regretted the move (a couple of years now - since Sonar 6 I've been at 64 bit)

A rack of noisemakers is not a definitive substitute for creativity. (though it does seem to help)

Not sure if this is the best thread to post to but I am looking for insight in to transferring numerous Sonar files from an old hard drive if I were to purchase or build a new DAW.  Is there a specific process that should be followed?  I can drop the old hard drive into the new system but have heard conflicting stories regarding the ability and ease of identifying specific track files associated with song files after the fact.

I am not too concerned with all of the plug ins  and efffects because I am looking for some new ones anyway.

Like I said, what is the best way to take an old hard drive with all of the info and drop it into a new computer so it can find and associate all of the proper files easily?

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.  I am very concerned about losing ifo or taking days upon days to find all of the various track data and link it back to the original song (some of which have numerous takes)
