Thanks for the reply, Tim. Although it looks like it would be a great product, I'm not in the market for a $150 orchestral sound module at this time. I was interested in MSO, mainly due to the closeout pricing ($60), and even then was doubting my "need" for it.
For any others interested in this thread, I had also emailed EMU support regarding the use of the Proteus VX VSTi and received the following response:
"Proteus VX is software that we give away for free as a demo. While it can be used with MSO, it is not ideal nor does it use MSO or provide best possible performance. Proteus VX doe not contain all the same performance features as our full versions do. In addition since one of the limitations is that it can no stream from hard disk like our other versions do, all banks must fit into available system RAM. Many of the MSO banks are quite large.
Proteus VX can be used with Sonar 8.5 but we strongly suggest that you do not use or rely on Proteus VX for use with MSO. There will also only be minimal support for any issues with Proteus VX abd MSO."
So, it looks like you've got to pony up for Emulator X if you're interested in this package.
