video card question

Anyone notice a big difference between 256MB dual head video and 512MB? Does it make a difference when running 2 monitors? Thanks.

I expect what matters is how much you are planning to send to the two monitors. If this is a Sonar question, I doubt you would notice any difference. If you are running a couple of gigantic high-res monitors with 3-D drawing of some high speed game animation, that would be different.

Thanks, Slarta for the reply. Yes, I'm just going to be using the monitor(s) for Sonar and a couple other DAW's, and I was thinking (and hoping) that there probably wouldn't be much difference.

Hello...  Yes the speed and options at certain high resolutions of display will make a improvement with more memory... but be careful they may have 512 on the card but it is DDR2 memory, while the 256 card will have DDR3 or DDR5 memory speed... also the best option to add is a 256 bit memory interface, much better than the 128 bit... read the Specs... not all card models are the same with the 512 memory usage, or promotion by MFG.

Actually I am about to buy a custom made DAW, and am trying to do some comparisons on the capabilities of the different models. Some models that are more expensive have what I would call overkill for  my needs, and the video card area is one that I am trying to determine what's best for me.

This graphics chip usually has a small amount  of embedded memory and takes some of the system's main RAM, decreasing the total RAM available.
