End Marker

I'm guessing this is an easy one but I'm still not sure how to do it. When I record a song about four minutes long and all the tracks are finished (no more graphics to display as showing recorded material) the song continues playing forever.  Is there a simple marker to insert at 4:10 or whatever telling Sonar to stop here for both playback and export later?

Thanks.

    As far as i'm aware there's no stop marker. Don't worry though because when you export it ends where it should. The only exception is midi. If you end with a midi file playing a synth, the reverb tail won't be captured. Two ways around this; simply extend the midi clip (making sure there's no notes after the final note (if it's a groove clip just delete the notes in the Piano roll view.)

    Alternativly, set up start and end loop points and set the end marker to include the reverb tail.

    If the last file is audio then you don't need to worry about this.

    Try Options->Global->Stop at Project End.

    You might also want to check that you don't have any stray nodes from some envelopes if you've used them.
    Sometimes an envelope will put a node way out past the end of a track for some strange reason and Sonar won't stop till it gets there.

    And if either of the above 2 options don't work, see if you've got any muted clips.

    Muted clips have, in the past, been a cause for the transport not to stop when it should.

    Stop at Project End didn't seem to work on my first attempt.  I will try the other suggestions.  Thanks!

    I believe that there's some bug that makes the project continue playing past the stop point if there are muted clips in the project. Or has that been fixed already?

    Well, as far as exporting a final 2-track master goes, you simply select how much of time-line you want to include.  You make sure it extends far enough to catch reverb tails.  But there's no reason to edit the MIDI clips, or set up loop points etc--Simply sweep through the time-line with your cursor and make sure all your tracks are selected.

    Ohhhhh i thought you had to activate looping after selection the region. Thanks for that.

    It seems to remain  some kind of an unexplained bug, that SONAR seemingly randomly decides whether it cares about where the project ends or not. Export or playback, sometimes it continues running behind the horizon, sometimes it stops where it's expected to.
    I haven't noticed the connection to muted clips. Need to be more observant.

    Selecting the portion of time line (during export) solves it, but it's still a workaround, a very easy one, though.

    It seems that sometimes this happens when a track layer is muted.

    I think the muted clips are still an issue with where is the ending. And the extra nodes, even if they are at zero volume, on the master track make the mix continue past the 'end'. I guess the only way to guarantee your ending is to mark the part of the song to include in the mix. Any new thoughts on this? It's kind of a drag to have a 3:23 mix of a 2:55 song.
