Reasons why I like my Sonar

If you can think of any stand out feature please place in this thread. ok I will go first groove clipping a wonderful idea drag and drop would have been better if you didnt have to select after you have dragged and dropped kinda defeats the object.

    [1] The Event Inspector.  I had no idea what it did until I watched Scott Garrigus's video on it.  It's a brilliant tool and now I use it almost all the time.

    Yes, mentioned in another post, I'm a big fan of playback and record, also [a must have]. I love the bitbridge, allowing native access to 32 and 64 bit plugs. X1 has some quality plug in effects and instruments, and it's numerous features can work well if you spend a lot of time learning it. And if you don't have a lot of time, you can always have an easier DAW or two along with it while you educate yourself. The forums here are always helpful and knowledgeable, and online videos, books and classes are available for those that want/need more resources.

    Be certain that all software requires some time and learning to master its capabilities, and the more features and complexity that is involved, the more time and commitment it will take from you. You will only get out of it what you put into it.

    Windows 7 64 bit, Sony Vaio Laptop Q740, 8 GB, Sonar Producer X1d, Focusrite Scarlett 18i, Korg Pa500, M-audio 61 Radium Keystation. Using Omnisphere, Trilian, Komplete 8, Morphestra, Orchestral Essentials, Evolve, Orange Tree Guitars, Addictive Drums, BFD2, Melodyne Editor, Studio One 2, Ozone 5, FabFilter.

    +1 Midi facilities are much better and comprehensive than what's available in most newer apps. I own Ableton Live 8, but I just cannot stand doing any serious midi with it, it lacks so many basic features and timing is awful while Sonar is rock solid.

    Ditto!

    as they say in the music business, 'timing' is everything :)

    In regards to midi workflow, Sonar still remains my #1 go-to DAW.

    @ the OP;

    Nice topic :)

     Slightly OT:

    I've been a busy bee, close to finishing up my album for release around valentines day 2012, the album is primarily a showcase of my songwriting skills, 'no loops were used' every note and articulation is done by me. It's no easy task doing it all myself. In recent months I had to re-rec several trks, remix and master almost every song! And now plans are already underway for my next album.

    That said;  I'm thankful that Sonar is there when I need her, she gets the job done, oh sure we had a little kinky quirky moments, but at the end of the day all I had to do was lay there and hit play!

     Slightly more OT:

     * Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone

    Wishing you all good health and great success!

    .

    I had someone pay X1 a compliment which was a well spotted comment. Sonar just sounds better. It is not the first time I have had that comment.

    Someone was listening to a tune I made (tune!) and commented how good it sounded. I told them that I had not mixed in it and they asked what I used. They looked astounded!

    0's n 1's I know but Sonar has something to offer in that department.

    Sonar does a good job stretching audio to match video. For instance I use the Olympus LS10 PCM recorder for event videography. Sometimes an audio track may be well over an hour long and there is drift when aligning to the video. I import the avi video/audio file, align the beginning of the pcm clip, and stretch the end into place holding shift or whatever it is. The online algorithm sounds good enough to make sure it's correct.  Then bounce for completed wave file to import back into video program. Never hear any kind of artifacts or wierdness. Have yet to find a better program to do this.

    It allows me to lose myself in what I love to do and record the whole event so I can lose myself again and again. It offers me a variety of tools to get the job done and even though I'm just scratching the surface of its capabilities, it allows me to get some pretty good results without any grief. It's reasonably priced, dependable and doesn't talk back. Screensets are a stroke of genius and completely customizable to my work flow needs. The PC strip is full of potential and always available when need be.

    I don't know if you can call this love, but I do spend a heck of a lot of time with it just about every day.

    I had some guys over showing them X1. These are AVID (pun) PT users. They were very amazed at the product content of X1 and Pro Channel. I didn't even get a Mac argument .. LOL!

    Two of the guys are going to buy X1. They like 64b!

    Mind you , the rest are full PT HD hardware enthusiasts so the won't be switching.

    I just told them, hey I use a bunch of programs outside of Sonar or PT. No law that says you have to be attached to one.

    For me my favorite is the Pro Channel and some of the very useful plugs added. I've learned quite a bit here too. Thx!
