Your favorite effects and settings to add before final mixing

Hi,  I recently picked up a BOSS  BR800 recorder which came with Sonar LE 8.5.

I am having a blast with it, as even though I have recorded in the past, I never had drums or a bass sim,  so
now I can create the sound of a whole band with just 1 guitar, my PC, and the BR800.

Heres my question :

What are your favorite effects ( reverb, compression, expander, etc ... ) and settings
which you typically add before you create your final mix for the following types of tracks ?

Vocals

Acoustic Guitar Strumming
Acoustic Guitar Fingerpicking

Electric Guitar
Lead Solo Electric

Bass
Drums

Theres so many effects to choose from !!!!

thanks in advance

First, get the best possible sound recorded without any effects. Raw tracks, optimum quality recording. Learn your gear.

Then, optimize each track indidvidually with as little eq and compression as possible.

Then determine what is necessary in the final mix, using as little effects as possible.

Key, minimal effects, maximum quality recording of clean individual tracks.

Important statement you made....Theres so many effects to choose from !!!!

Truth is, there are too many. I collected all of them, played with all of them, and threw almost all of them away. Now, I use a good multi-band compressor, a twenty freq. eq, and a good reverb unit.

Sometimes some delay, sometimes a few "tricks", but rarely and sparingly.

+1 to what Albert (aka Gambler) says.

FX can ruin a good mix if misused.
