Can't get direct monitoring of plug-ins

HELP!
 
I have 7XL and a lexicon alpha interface...I have tried every setting I can think of and sill have this problem...
 
The dry signal is coming through the headphones OK, but the effected sound is delayed by about 1 second and is very broken up...I have double checked that the alpha is set for both playback and recording, and have tried every possible mute button I can find in windows...when I mute the signal according to the help files I get the dry signal only, not the effected signal like I'm supposed to...
 
I am running windows 7 and have tried disabling all onboard sound to isolate the alph and that hasn't changed the problem...
 
what am I doing wronG/
 
also...cannot get ASIO drivers to select in the options menu...only get the alpha to show up as MME...

    do you have the latest alpha drivers from the lexicon website for win7?

    Well, that's your problem. You need to get either the ASIO or WDM drivers to work.
