MIDI data cut off when routed into a synth

Hi all,

I happen to be a recent newbie to Sonar Producer 'crossing over' from the Ableton Live 8 scene.

My initial problem at the moment is that I am getting an instant cut off when playing MIDI tracks through any synth.

For example I have a chord progression of my own which I would drop into a track in Live and pick a synth (Z3TA+ for example)
and that would play fine, but in Sonar, I load up a new project then insert a soft synth (True Piano's for example) then
import midi into the same track but it will only play the first chord until about 2 seconds but the counter will keep rolling with frustrating silence.

If the same MIDI file is inserted into a raw MIDI Track (no synth) it will play it all using the basic midi system (MS GS Wavetable Synth- General Midi?) just fine.

I think I am missing something here??

Please help, I could send a video perhaps?

Thanks, Jon.

My guess is your MIDI track is playing on more than one channel. True Piano is not multitimbral and will only play notes from one channel. The MS GS Wavetable synth is General MIDI and multitimbral and so it can play notes on any channel. Look at the event list and see what channels the MIDI data is using.

    Thanks for your message Dave.

I have looked at the event log and the events are all on channel 1, I even tried changing it to channel 2 and using a different synth (Sylenth1) but it is still the same effect.

    This is strange...

In PRV Mode, If I move the green marker to play into about three seconds of the track it will all work fine, but still the usual fast mute starting at 0:0 minutes/secs..

    ------------------

Looks like I may of fixed the issue by lowering the Mixing Latency in audio options from 80msec to 20msec as MIDI date is fully fine playing from say 00:00:00:08 seconds opposed to 00:00:00:00 where it would quickly cut out after a first chord.

Look again at your event view.

What, apart from note data, is present at the very beginning of your song?

You might have some errant prog or patch changes there causing the problem.

Also, try shifting the actual start of your project away from 01:01:000 - start at measure 2.
Sonar has, in the past, struggled with Midi data at 01:01:000
