Midi Only Plays first 3 Notes

Hi all,
looking for some help please as a newbie to this forum. Problem is my Midi track is about 30 notes long and MC will only play the first 3 notes then stops rendering the sound. I'm running Creative SB XFixtreme Music card and also have a realtek audio on motherboard, both seem to be working fine with audio but both do the same thing with the Midi. I'm running MC4 with Windows 7. There are 10 tracks in all 11 including the the synth (TTS-1). When I export the midi and run on another application it plays fine. It has played in the past. I've also noticed that the cursor appears to lag behind the sound playing I'm not sure if that's relevant or not. I have installed latest SB abd Realtek drivers. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
Your first problem is you're using two soundcards which both are less than recommendable for audio recording. At least the Realtek would be better disabled, so you could use WMD or even ASIO drivers (if such exist for SB). Realtek (usually) only understands MME driver, which is rather poor. If you can use WDM drivers with both of those, then it's not that big a deal.

Give more details, please. Does the playback (and cursor) just stop
    without any other symptoms?

You mention "rendering". Does the halt take place during mixdown or bounce or just ordinary playback? "Rendering" is usually used for
bouncing the MIDI to an audio track.

When you export MIDI, do you mean you save it as MIDI file and then play it with the internal GS Wavetable synth (=what is producing the sound?)?

What are your PC specs? Do I understand correctly: Are you using 10 instances of TTS-1? Have you been able to run that many instances before?

Trying different values in Options->Global-> MIDI [Record->Number of Buffers and/or Playback->Prepare Using   might also help ( if MC has that dialogue).

If only exactly three first notes are played back every time, there could be a selection, loop setting or something you've missed.

    Hope you'll solve it.

Yep... I've seen that happen too.

One sound card is all you should use.... but the problem is neither of those cards are good cards to use with Music Creator. (MC5)  Still, you should choose one and disable the other. See if that works.

Hi Kalle, thanks for the feedback. The SB card handles WMD and so does the Realtek (it's an alc888 onboard device) - neither handle ASIO and when I tried MME MC would let me change back to WMD and I eventually had to uninstall and reinstall MC.

The Cursor continues moving but is about one bar behind what is actually coming out of the speakers.

Sorry for the use of "rendering" I mean Playback.
Yes when I say save as Midi I mean as a.MID file and I can then play it on Finale 2007.

PS is an Intel 3G Duo core on a MSI P35 NEO Motherboard.

Only using one instance of TTS-1.

Will try buffer and play back options once clean install.

Not exactly first 3 notes every time - between 1 and 4 but never more than 4.

checked loop settings etc nothing there.

    Thanks in advance.

Definately use the SB card only. While not the very best  cards, they were once the heart and soul of recording, before the other lines like M-audio and such came out.

Several things to try is since you are not using live synths but just playback only move the latency slider closer to safe. that is found in the options audio section. make sure that the SB card is setup as the playback and recording timer there as well, and that the realtec is not in play. Lastly the realtec defaults to 44,100 sample rate, and the SB card to 48,000 make sure that that is the setting, 48,000 sampling rate. and then try again to playback a sample song thru TTS.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!

I was thinking the sound stops after 3 or 4 notes because the soundcard is having a hard time processing in real time.  A better solution, is to but a dedicated USB interface (external) and let it be the main soundcard for recording. Just about all of us old-timers here use the external solution and it works great.

    Hi all,

YES! it works. Itwas the Latency setting that needed changing and disabling the Realtek that fixed it. Many many thanks all forthe rapid and helpful response. All I need now is a hit tune and some great lyrics..... anyone got any ideas?.

also any recommendations for a new sound card would be gratefully received then I can do some research on what's right for me. Thanks again...

I got lots of songs and  ideas,,, but nobody's buying them.

     for sound card recommendations....
    1. look at Beagle's web site for info on cards.
    2. Look at the signatures of some users to see what we are using. What we have is proven to work.
    3. Talk to the guys in the AUDIO/RECORDING dept at Sam Ash, Guitar Center, and other larger music stores to get their ideas. I found the crew at SA & GC in Raleigh to be very helpful and informative.

Using a good Interface (sound card) will change your recording experience for the better 1000%. Most cards will give you very low latencies to the point that it becomes a non-issue, and allow you to process synths in real time with low latencies.  You will like it.

with the right card, depending on the computer speed, RAM, and processor.... you can easily run large projects and a number of synths and FX ....all in real time without choking and dropouts.
